I used to trust the media to tell me the truth..

tell us the truth...

But now I see the payoffs everywhere I look,
who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

What payoffs are you speaking about?

Wiggles 03-20-2005 08:46 PM

you just need to do independent research.

Doesn't matter what she posts in response to this. You will just go on and on about how she's crazy and the government or any other agency would never pay off a news establishment to suit their needs. Then there will be a debate for a while, some name calling and by page 3 people will lose interest and the thread will die.

Did I just about nail it?

In answer to your question...I think not. I know of one payoff...but she apparently knows of multiple payoffs "But now I see the payoffs everywhere I look...". So I would like for her to educate me and explain what "payoffs" she is referring to.

the sad thing is that for the media, there does not need to be a pay of.. Just someone that they rely on, that can make them change the facts of their story. For instance the FCC.

Furious_Female 03-20-2005 08:54 PM

The problem with the media is their lies of omission depending on which company has the most interest in them. A good example is the lady who sued over the Matrix, claiming it was her idea and stolen from her. Very few people heard about it, because Time Warner owns half of this country in one way or another.

No matter what she posts, you will not accept it. Educate you? Your minds already made up...

jimboc 03-20-2005 08:58 PM

The people who are high up in TV / Radio are too scared to upset very important people because they don't want to upset there network bosses. They want to win TV awards and move on in their careers. That's why....

I would assume that if she sees "...payoffs everywhere I look..." she would at the least have a couple of links on hand specifying a payoff. If the link is from a known "reliable" source there would not be a reason for me to not accept it.

Bingo...if TV were rated on truth and trust, as opposed to gaining viewers and keeping them, TV would be alot different. Especially the media...

Right you are...there would be no reason for you not to accept it. But you still wouldn't. :)

Let's not assume you do things that you don't. You're about as open minded as Jerry Fallwell when it comes to listening to other people's views an opinions. I've read enough of your posts to know just like everyone else does. You're in here because you're looking to argue with someone about what you like to believe is a perfect country and government.

Don't feel bad though. It's human nature to assume we are always right...even when we are wrong. Down south we call it thick skulled...

Not trying to pick a fight with you either. I know you would argue a stop sign until it fell over. Just pointing out the fact that no matter what gets posted here...you're not buying it.

Not too far fetched when you look at some things that have happened in State and local elections rove had anything to do with. :)

Also I find it funny that theking has to make such a big deal about Queensryche lyrics from more than 10 years ago! Like fuck dude don't kill the messenger, why not send an email to Geoff Tate and him about what payoffs! :1orglaugh

Tala,

I stopped trusting the media along time ago. In college, my internship was with a rag newspaper in the Silicon Valley. My duties were to update ?who-is-who? and ?new technology? sections within the second week, I found out that no one got published unless they were advertisers or had connections to lead to advertisement.

Really don?t know who to believe, so I read several publications and then come up with my own conclusions.

What makes you post such a question or observation?

There's nothing wrong in defending your country hoss. The problem lies in the fact that many will turn a blind eye to injustice in order to do it. Once their views are set, there is no changing them...no matter if they are right or wrong...no matter how much evidence is shown. Those kinds of people scare me. Drifting through life with fucking blinders on...never going off the path...

Just a couple qoutes, first from a very prominent Republican mind you.....

"Corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow" Abraham Lincoln - 1864

and this one's author escapes me, but it seems appropriate

"If those in charge of our society - politicians, corporate executives and owners of press and television can dominate our ideas, they will be secure in their power. They will not need soldiers patrolling the streets, we will control ourselves"

I hate to be the one to inform you of this, but political parties have completely traded ideologies about 3 or 4 times since 1864. The current Republican party is not the party that began in the mid 1800's and the Democratic party is REALLY not the party it began in the late 1700's.

Here is another quote from your boy Lincoln you may find suites todays Republican party much better. This is from one of the Lincoln/Douglas debates:

"I believe the American Negro should be freed, no man in our sacred Union should be held in bondage. But make no mistake, I do not foresee the Negro as ever being equal to whites. Nor should they be."

Ummm, sure he was against slavery, but he was no defender of equal rights by any means.

Peaches 03-20-2005 10:54 PM

The press has always been this way. Americans didn't even know Roosevelt was crippled for months because the photographers agreed to photograph him from the waist up and the press never expose him.

I can name about 10 kids from my HS that got into trouble 25-30 years ago and nothing was EVER in the paper because the parents quashed it.

And every paper has it's slant too.

contrary to your quickly formed opinion of what I may or may not know about Lincoln or the fact that current political parties bear little resemblence to their forefathers, this thread has nothing to do with equality.

Nope just sick and tired of Republicans running around every 4 years screaming like retards, "THE PARTY OF LINCOLN!"

Thomas_AT_eroswebmaster 03-20-2005 11:33 PM

Well I agree with you on that, since even Lincoln's contemporaries (other Republicans and members of his own cabinet) thought him weak and sentimental, and all figures from history have their inherant character flaws. My point was to juxtapose his statement against the, shall we say "liberal" bias that the so-called conservatives in govt. for the past 50 years have given towards corporate entities that back their agendas.

But back to the original spirit of this thread, Adolph Hitler once said (paraphrasing from memory), "The bigger the lie you tell, the more people will believe it".

Gotcha, if you have not read this, you may be very interested, very well researched and written. "What Liberal Bias!" by, Eric Alterman

All of his stuff is top notch, and he does a great job of digging beneath the shit.

funny thing, I just used tha same Hitler quote in another thread. :)
