Attention enviromentalists

The Republicans have snuck into the budget...drilling in Anwar. This budget has not been finalized...but the President has said that he will sign it when it is.

Because it is not finalized...all of you environmentalists...need to contact your congressman...via phone...fax...e-mail...or snail mail...immediately...to protest the drilling.

I for one am against drilling in Anwar for several reasons...but one primary reason is the amount of oil that is estitmated to be there. The estimates range from 5 billion to 16 billion barrels (how much of that can be recovered and remain financially viable is another guess).

When US consumption is somewhere around 20 million barrels per day...you can do the math and see that the high estimate for Anwar would not support US consumption for much more than two years.

It is predicted that if the development of Anwar began today it would not be producing oil for ten years. What will US consumption be in ten years time?

If you think that the environmental dangers out weigh the potential benefits then...once again...contact your Congressman immediately.

if the US truely was a democrasy AND free market then 0 barrels per day

Oil for power = outdated = ignorant

people 300 years from now will laugh at the persons now in power cause of their short term views on economy

The US is not a true democracy and will never be. It was founded as a Republic and will remain a Republic. I do not know how you define "free market" but in the US...as long as the use of fossil fuels remain financially viable fossil fuels will be used. When it is no longer financially viable then alternative sources will be used.

theking 03-20-2005 07:52 AM

All that will pledge to contact their Congressman Monday...say yea.

yeah but thats like very short term view , now it might be profitable to use it ,

but it wont be in the future, and what do you call profitable ? burning oil = bad for nature ,

and nature is all we got as humans ,

The current economy is based upon the use of cheap fossil fuels. When fossil fuels become more and more expensive (which it will as the supply diminishes) then a switch will be made to alternative sources. Realistically...as long as fossil fuels are financially viable...the switch will not be made.

like I said drilling up oil in alaska is SHORT TERM view, cause if I read this correctly you too think its only a matter of time before alternative energy sources will take over and oil wil no longer be used in modern technology

based on that , the fact that it WILL happen and its only a matter of time ,its very ignorant to destroy wildlife in alaska for oil drilling

cause you do realise the place they want to drill is meeting and breeding place for large hurdes of deer like animals that live there? ? its realy ignorant to destroy their habitat over short term economical advantages

If you read my original post...I am against drilling in Anwar. If you are an American...can I assume that you will be contacting your Congressman tomorrow?

I am no American and thus have no congressman , but I have been actively advising all americans I know to do just that :thumbsup

Anyone who says that drilling in Alaska is just a short term solution apparently forgot that we're living in end times.

Like former Secretary of the Interior James Watt said when asked why we're not doing a better job preserving the land for future generations, "I do not know how many future generations we can count on before the Lord returns."
