Chicken soup recommendations?

I am not much of a soup guy, but this cold is kicking my ass, and everyone keeps telling me to eat chicken soup.

I am not inclined to go thru the effort to make it myself, so does anyone have any recommendations on some good chicken soup?

If you do not want to make it, order it from a resturant that delivers.

Otherwise Campbells select, progresso and so on may do, but I find them way to sodium rich.

What kind of restaurant delivers chicken soup? Or what kind of restaurant sells chicken soup? All I have ever ordered is Chinese or pizza.

Mexican places often have a Pollo soup (chicken). Then I do belive most cities do have 3rd party restaurant delivery services where they deliver from 30-100 different places, many even have online ordering.

Let me guess, you failed geography in high school? Jamaica isn't near Canada.

Baddog, find a local banquet hall. They usually have it. (Odd coming from a vegetarian. :( ) With that said, just have (fresh) vegetable soup and constantly drink fluids.

Yeah, I could drive over there I guess, I know they wouldn't deliver this far . . . I know traffic will suck, but it is the best suggestion so far . . . might even pick up a pastrami sandwich and a slice of carrot cake while I am there to make it worth the drive :thumbsup

If chicken soup isn't Kosher or Kosher style...

It ain't chicken soup, or as we Jews like to call it "Jewish Penicillin" :)

It does take time to make but if you want a simple recipe:

Roast a pack of mixed chicken legs and thighs, till the skin is dark brown and crispy, in about 1/2" of water and keep topping up and turning the pieces. This makes a great basis for the soup.

Chop up 1/2 a swede, 1/2 an onion in 1/2's, 1 whole medium carrot and a small trimmed leek cut in to 1/2" slices.

Add 1 bay leaf, 5 black pepper corns, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and salt to taste.

Then add the roast chicken and stock. Add enough water to cover everything by 1". Bring to the boil and skim the scum that comes to the surface. When this is done put on a lid and simmer for 1 hour and taste. Top up with more water to cover by at least 1". Add seasoning as you like it, then simmer for 1 more hour... After this you should have perfect kosher style chicken soup...

Reading it in your quote... I see what you mean.. But I didn't use a capital "S" :)

my mom gave me her recipe for chicken stew with soft dumplings, but since you're not in the mood to cook, this won't work.
Just try the Chunky soup or Progresso.

Yeah, that $10 a quart and an hour drive (round trip) probably wasn't the best idea, although it was some pretty damn good soup

If you have a Safeway nearby.....they have their 'signature' soups. Not bad for not homemade.

To really kick a cold, you need heat and lots of it.....

If you can get it down......very very hot tea, with honey and lemon....take a hot shower, get into bed or onto the couch and cover up with a million blankets...and sweat...repeat every few hours.

If you can drink alcohol, add a shot or two to the tea.....of a dark whiskey, which makes it a hot toddy.

If you hate tea, even hot water with sugar in it works, as sugar promotes the growth of the 'good bacteria.....lemon, being acidic, kills the bad stuff...and alcohol kills everything....and makes the misery easier to live with.

Safeway / Vons chicken noodle is great. Otherwise, Campbells is my fav.

brutus 03-20-2005 12:10 PM

chicken pieces
coconut milk
thai wok vegetables
chilli

and thats that, very delicious and everyone can cook it.
