Is the average consumer of gay porn gay?

Who buys memberships to male gay sites? Are the majority of consumers gay men or hetro men with bi fantasies? Does anyone have an educated opinion on what the sexual orientation or lifestyle of the average consumer is?

Straight guys don't fantasize about other men.

TORTOISE 03-18-2005 04:21 PM

l would guess its gay and bi ..and guys who are curious and not to sure .....guess that covers them . :thumbsup

w0rstluk 03-18-2005 04:22 PM

that's a good question, i would assume the majority would be from gay men - because males with bi fantasies would IMO not signup because of the social standards associated with gay men. in other words, they dont want to admit their gay even if they were :2 cents:

MsCheyenne 03-18-2005 04:25 PM

You'd be surprised. Having worked as a dominatrix for ten years, I know that many straight men have bi fantasies. One out of ten of my clients, regardless of macho atttiude and standing in their community, want to be forced to interact with another man.

Of course, there are probably men living a straight lifestyle that are gay and surpress it too. Anyway, I was just curious about who buys the male gay porn. The school teacher who is married with three kids or the gay man living like one? It would seem that this would effect the type of content in the gay sites.

You obviously don't sell gay porn. :2 cents:

We had a client put up our feeds, 13 straight and 4 gay in his STRAIGHT sites.

After one week he had MORE traffic to the 4 gay feeds than he did to the all of the straight ones combined.

That was just one client, but that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

So I would assume there's a large amount of curious straight men out there.

I don't know, is the average consumer of steaks a meat eater?

really hate to break the news to you - but I have worked in the gay industry - watched the chat rooms and who purchases.. the majority are straight men with familys/wives who secretly want men.

emthree 03-18-2005 04:43 PM

Not sure, but I do know alot of curious females buy memberships.

Holly Lez! 03-18-2005 04:47 PM

It is a pretty good mix for us... Some of our customers identify themselves as straight but the majority are gay men... We also have gay women and straight women as members... The Internet is a good place for people to feel safe in their sexuality so I think it will be hard to get exact #'s

"sraight men" who "secretly want men" are actually gay, not straight.

eamedia 03-18-2005 05:08 PM

10 percent are gay and 90 percent are catholic preists

i didnt say ALL men do, but a majority of them have thought/think about what it would be like and if they are truly straight (and dont wanna actually see what it would really be like), they can 'test' that fantasy out online and in private.

"majority" is a big overstatement. Very few "straight" men have thoughts like that.

the most (pleasurable) nerve endings on a man in his anus (google it), thats why some straight men like ass play (maybe a finger or two..im sure you've seen the content around on the web), that doesnt really mean they want dick, but some of those men think if its good with a finger (or toy) during sex with their girlfriend/wife, they wonder about a man ...not nessescarily bicurious, just curious. and then they find that they can find out discretly on the net.

this is all info taken from sex shows i've watched, articles i've read, and even people that i have known. in order to sell a product, ya gotta know *who* to sell it to & *why* they would want it. i've done my research.

psili 03-18-2005 06:02 PM

I've noticed customers writing in about our channels and websites (which are 100% straight - not even chicks doing dudes), and you'd be surprised at how frequent emails come in from guys wishing to see: chicks fucking dudes in the ass, dudes touching / fondling each other during group sex, etc. I'd say there's tons of "normal heterosexuals" out there who fantasize about the cock.

my point exactly! :winkwink:

Strife 03-18-2005 06:07 PM

Men who fantasize about other men aren't straight..they are either bisexual or gay and just haven't realized or come to terms with it. :2 cents:

Wanting to have your ass played with does not make one gay. That is ridiculous. Why you even brought that up is beyond me.

You can come play with my ass all you want, that is never going to make me hungry for cock... despite what a few of my clients may tell you, haha.

where did i say that ass play makes someone gay?? lol i was just saying what makes guys curious about it, thats all :upsidedow

mardigras 03-18-2005 06:56 PM

The average consumer of straight porn is gay guys slipping behind their boyfriend's back :upsidedow

CynthiaB 03-18-2005 06:59 PM

I'm still wondering about straight women subing to gay male sites - because slash fiction (fan fiction written about a sexual relationship between two TV or movie characters) is incredibly popular and almost always written and read by women. It's huge.

That is very interesting. Sounds like marketing male/male porn to the specifically "curious" or "straight" male would be worth exploring further.

Next Question: Do you think the content itself would be more effective to the "straight" or curious male if it were not necessarily gay but male/male. For example, two buddies having a threesome with a woman when the men unexpectedly begin interacting with each other. The men's reaction would be surprise but uncontainable arrousal....or....two men in a locker room, nervously noticing they both have erections...No hokey plots but situations that perhaps straight living men with bi fantasies would project themselves in.

At least from customer email, I'd say just having normal 2 dude on 1 chick sex scenes where the dudes quietly yet happily play with each other while fucking the chick would go over huge if inserted correctly (and obviously available to be made solely categorized) into a listing of video searches.

Then that must mean that no straight man has ever been bi curious and bought gay porn in the history of mankind.

I agree completely about it being soley categorized. It is one of those areas that guys either really like or are completely turned off by. I wouldn't even take the chance of putting it on my hetro site. If I were to ever do male bi, it would have to be on it's own venue.

I had a customer on video secrets recently that bought private shows with girls, private shows with guys, and private shows with couples.

So there are a lot of people out there that I think like variety.

Pornwolf 03-18-2005 07:37 PM

Saying that most men are bi curious is a stretch.

Or at least bi

I just thought the original question by the thread starter was interesting. You sure ain't gonna see any man to female action on most gay porn site.

So I would have to say "YES" the average consumer of gay porn IS gay. The REAL question is: Are they in or out of the closet who frequent gay sites.

There are many gay sites that play into the fantasy of converting the straight man. And there are hardcore gay sites that don't pretend to be straight at all. I think different people play into it a t different levels. To try to categorize it into gay, bi or straight men isn't where it's at. It's all on the fantasy intent of the site you are promoting.

I do however, have better luck converting "closet sites" on straight TGPs and hardcore gay sites on gay TGPs if that helps.

1.) Gay men, straight men, and bi-sexual men.

2.) The majority are gay men.

3.) Gay.

yup I'd have to agree with you! all my paysites are str8 sites, but the gay and bi videos I get from the package deal I have with hosted content are in the top 5 most watched videos by my members.
