Google BUSTED for keyword stuffing and cloaking

haha not sure if anyone made a thread about this , but i think it deserves a thread of its own.

Basically in a nutshell they are making one page for surfers and a different site show up for the spiders. ( the same thing they ban domains for )

And isn't their corporate motto Don't be evil?

Even if that ever WAS true, it certainly isn't after going public.

That's truly fucked.

Who could possibly police them though?

who 03-18-2005 01:07 PM

And all they needed to do was plonk their site into the results... they didn't need to do that...

its illegal to spit in burgers and serve them. if McDonalds was offering free burgers and was in compliance with the law in their means of preparation, handling etc... they are not obligated to inform you of anything. correct?

chupachups 03-18-2005 01:10 PM

lol, funny :)

SmokeyTheBear 03-18-2005 01:14 PM

Heres google denying it. Sort of.

They say its a technical error , that the cloaked pages were only there for the internal search.

If you have ever been banned by google , send them a mail using their own words as an excuse and see what they do.

"We inadvertently showed additional information on product support pages to both Google's site search crawler and Google's main web crawler. The additional information shown by the product support pages was intended only for the site search crawler, not the main web crawler," the spokesperson said"

I don't think of it as a legality issue; it has more to do with integrity. Google has successfully hoodwinked most surfers with their manufactured image-- a superficial "concern" for a comfortable surfer experience.

I want to see their PR10 domain go to 0. Ban the whole Google.com domain.

I highly doubt that, unless they'd do it for a joke. :P All other search engines could penalize them though.. heh.

groark 03-18-2005 02:09 PM

Well.. In the end they do more good than bad and that's whats counting.

axelcat 03-18-2005 02:10 PM

damn........

OzMan 03-18-2005 02:17 PM

Yeah I saw that. I reported the fuckers to themselves for abusing their own algorithm. :thumbsup Can this self abuse be technically classed as masturbation?

I just went to Google.com and it still has a PR10 so my ban request didn't work. :disgust

edit lol WG

MrJackMeHoff 03-18-2005 02:27 PM

Is their search engine they can do what they want.

Thats true , its more they way they did it.

When people use the search engine and their own sites rank high because they cheated the algorithm its deceptive.

As someone pointed out they dont even need to do that , they could easily add a

" THESE GOOGLE SERVICES MATCH YOUR SEARCH RESULTS "

at the top of the page

But then you would KNOW they might not be the best. ( kind of ruins the whole point of a search engine )
