I want to thank those who voted for W , they are paying back the christian right
Posted by Jason Miles, 3/17/05, 10:00 p.m. Memphian and five others indicted for pornography Mar 17, 2005, 11:09 PM Mr. Big and six others, including a Memphis man, could spend 20-years behind bars if their indictment is proven in court. At the center of it all, deciding what is or is not obscene. Federal authorities say Edward Wedelstedt's Colorado company, called Goalie Entertainment, distributed obscene material to adult stores in 18 states, including Tennessee. The names of the videos are to explicit to print, but they're listed in a 54-page indictment of Wedelstedt and six associates, including Memphian James Randal Martinson. Feds also claim sales taxes on the material were underpaid. "It's our intent to disrupt this business and put them out of business if possible," said Larry Parrish, former U.S. Attorney. "This is a major, major effort." Memphis attorney Larry Parrish is a former federal prosecutor who handled major smut cases in the 1970's. He says obscenity laws that haven't been pushed in the recent past are picking up steam. "The federal government is getting back in the business," he said. Parrish says going after crooks who don't pay their taxes is one thing. Cleaning up what the government considers to be obscene is an added bonus. "Right now, the stuff out there is so far over the line--no reasonable person would say it's not obscene," he said. But different communities have different standards. And even the titles--too graphic to show on TV or on the web--may not offend everyone. "Mr. Big's" company says it disputes the allegations set forth in this indictment and looks forward to proving its innocence in a court of law. There's no word tonight on which adult stores in Memphis are in bed with "Mr. Big." |
