A Treasury report this week showed that foreigners now hold $1.96 trillion in Treasury securities, 45 per cent of the total that is publicly traded. Japan has the largest holdings at $701.6 billion, followed by China at $194.5 billion.

China and the European union are 2 threads that will contest the US for superpower status in the next 50 years. China's military still has a long ways to be of a big threat, their nuclear arsenal is miniscule and its abilities very limited.

The flaw in your comment is that capitalism stops this from happening. People don't blow up trading partners.
