anyone have experience registering your OWN UPC BAR CODES?

Have a couple of hard goods going into stores and need to get setup for UPC bar codes... I read up alittle but would like to find someone whos ran through this before so I make sure I aint getting burned, and oing it right.

That buyabarcode.com is a rip

I was playing with the UCC site and you pay $750 1 time fee and 150 every tyear after and that gets you 100 bar codes and 100 locations.
