Iran's 'desert vampire' executed

An Iranian serial killer who murdered at least 20 children has been executed in front a large crowd of spectators.
Mohammad Bijeh, 24, dubbed "the Tehran desert vampire" by Iran's press, was flogged 100 times before being hanged.

A brother of one of his young victims stabbed him as he was being punished. The mother of another victim was asked to put the noose around his neck.

The execution took place in Pakdasht south of Tehran, near where Bijeh's year-long killing spree took place.

The killer was hoisted about 10 metres into the air by a crane and slowly throttled to death in front of the baying crowd.

Hanging by a crane - a common form of execution in Iran - does not involve a swift death as the condemned prisoner's neck is not broken.

Calm and silent

The killer collapsed twice during the punishment, although he remained calm and silent throughout.

Spectators, held back by barbed wire and about 100 police officers, chanted "harder, harder" as judicial officials took turns to flog Bijeh's bare back before his hanging.

Bijeh was stabbed by the 17-year-old brother of victim Rahim Younessi, AFP reported, as he was being readied to be hanged.

Officials then invited the mother Milad Kahani to put the blue nylon rope around his neck.

The crimes of Mohammed Bijeh and his accomplice Ali Baghi had drawn massive attention in the Iranian media.

They reportedly tricked children to go with them into the desert south of Tehran by saying they were going to hunt animals. They then poisoned or knocked their victims out, sexually abused them and buried them in shallow graves.

They were found guilty of the murders of between 19 and 22 people, but local people believe the toll to be higher.

Baghi has been given a 15 year prison term.

Sweet. A person who does the same crime here gets 5 years, which is then shortened to 3 years for good behaviour in jail.

They then get let out, get given a new identity, and get protected for life.

they should make them think they are going to hang him... then say "haha... we decided we will not hang you" ... then when he relaxes and thinks its all over suddenly put the noose around his neck. then when they hoist him up, the rope should break and they should all chant "hooray! you passed the test you are free" and let him walk away. then shoot him in the kneecap so he drops to the ground. then walk up and say "sorry buddy, you gotta die and point the gun at his head"... then "click" the gun should be empty. just when he thinks everything is ok, they should tell him they are going to just kick him for a while and let him go home to his family... then kick him for a while... tell him its over... then help him up, stop the bleeding, bandage his knee and start walking for the door. then someone should stab him in the face while police pretend to protect him but secretly wink and smirk at each other when he is not looking. then they should bandage his face. then they should tell him they are really impressed with his courage and that he is free... but suddenly put another rope around his neck and lift him just high enough off the ground so that if he does not support himself with his toes, he will die. Then they should let him hand there while blindfolded children beat him with a stick expecting candy to drop out of him. i think the children would like that.

How can something so morbidly brutal make me laugh so hysterically?

He deserved something more. I always thought that lowering a 2 ton concrete brick onto someone 1 inch an hour would be a fitting punishment for crimes like that. strap them to the ground, suspend the huge concrete block above them about 6 inches, and let it lower an inch per hour, as it started to crush them it would take a few hours of agony for the weight to kill them, and they would have to watch as it came closer and closer..

Interesting.....that is actually what "stoning" referred to in the ancient middle east. When the Bible refers to it also. They didn't throw rocks at the person until they died, they would dig a hole, put the person into it, and VERY VERY slowly lower a huge slab onto them.

There are plenty of murderers/rapists/child molesters that deserve that :thumbsup

They used to do that in medieval England, too, as a punishment for those who wouldn't plead guilty or not guilty. If you were found guilty of an offence, as you usually were, you would hang, and all your posessions would be taken by the government - leaving your family penniless. So many people, often innocent, would refuse to plead, and effectively chose to be crushed to death. Not nice for them, but their families kept their home.
