Well choose an AVS you'd like to use (Cyberage, FNP, Adult Check) and read their rules; it's impossible to say how many you'll need since they all have different requirements.

Make small feeder sites with 50 pictures at least (according to rules) and make one big platinum site with at least 200 pics. Dont worry about making mega sites.All small sites will form a big porn network, this is the avs concept.
BTW, start with Cyberage if you are a newbie at avs because they are giving free hosting and content for your sites.
Or use free avs's like FNP, Sexkey.I heard they are easier to sell
