I've never heard anyone else that sings like Layne Staley. The closest is probably Jerry Cantrell, the backup vocalist/guitarist from Alice In Chains.

There was only one Layne Staley, and he is gone now...

There is a band called "Kicking Harold" whose vocalist is somewhat similar, and I've had friends say that the dude from Faith No More/Mr Bungle sounds like him.

Jerry Cantrell's solo stuff is the closest you will come to the AIC sound though.

Edit to add: You can always get a hold of Mad Season, which was a side project album that Layne Staley did, it's awesome.

I have a tape of this Dutch band who sounds a lot like him/alice in chains. If it was a cd id rip it for you...sorry.

Dirty F 03-16-2005 02:55 AM

And i assume you know about Mad Season right?

Facelift- In my top 10 all-time .

Sully from Godsmack sounds a lot like Layne actually

Is it possible to digitize a tape through the mic input in my laptop?

pixieboy 03-16-2005 03:29 AM

that's a damn hard thing to find... i don't think any band could ever somehow sound even close to alice in chains.. their sound's dark and heavy in a different way.
