I just Bought a new Backberry 7290........ Am I one of the cool Kids now ??;)

I was going to go for the Treo , but after reading all the posts on here about the 7290, I decided to go with that one.Besides the keyboard on the treo was just a bit too small for my fingers. To top it all off my new phone # ends in 7290 :Graucho :Graucho

american pervert 03-15-2005 05:57 PM

why not the treo? I have one, though its the outdated 270 (that they fucked everyone on) I like the larger screen so I can ssh into my systems if need be. im not sure i see the benifit of the blackberry over the treo.

MaDalton 03-15-2005 06:29 PM

sorry, at your age you'll never be a "kid" again. whatever you do. :1orglaugh

treo does the same thing. Read about products before commenting on them please.

dooglas 03-15-2005 06:41 PM

I thought 7520 is the newest. I have it anyway..blackberries rock!

Aly 03-15-2005 06:42 PM

sorry, but the treo sucks imo. i have a 650, and am selling it. after owning it for about a month i bought a 7290. it's hard to even compare the two. i love the blackberry, don't like the treo at all. always crashing, shitty keyboard, pain in the ass stylus operation, feels like it will fall apart if you flick it too hard. and the email simply ROCKS on the bb. the only weakness of the bb is that it doesn't have a built in camera/video camera... that's the only thing i'll miss about the treo.

anyway, to each his/her own :glugglug

quiet 03-15-2005 06:43 PM

sorry i didn't see this thread jfk, so you just bought it lol? what do you think?

not really, you should read up on products first. Treo's system is being improved but it is still not like RIM.

not true. treo checks for email at intervals. bb i send an email and it arrives in less than 2 seconds. it is faster than my laptop email.

the 7520 is fine if you want nextel, but I have their i730 and I'm starting to fall out of love with their service... only saving grace is the 2ways

i know i love the 7100t...i followed it all through development when it had the codename "charm". If they had one for Nextel I'd get one for sure. How does that keyboard work though? Its pretty weird. I can do 45 WPM on my blackberry...i don't know if i could pull that off on the 7100t.

Treo's have the same email functionality as Blackberry now. Granted the service isn't cheap.

I havn't taking a speed test yet, but I can go fast, but only problem is when it thinks for you and the same key combo spells more then 1 proper version of the word

but what I do really like is it seems to learn and picks up on what you ttype abbreviations

Congratz JFK!

:)

(I posted this elsewhere but thought it would be useful here as well)

I picked up the 7100t for my wife and I a few weeks ago

http://www.tmobile.com/images/produc...arge_front.jpg

I'm not as happy as I could be BUT the 7100 is good for all intents and purposes.

Web browsing is very slow on T-Mobile but I'm not sure about other providers. Email and messenging are more than adequate, and actually very good. IMO, utilizing Blackberry as "a service" is far superior to anything else out there in terms of accessing email.

T-Mobile as a cellular service provider is probably the worst in Los Angeles so altough I cancelled my Sprint service, I'm not going to cancel my Nextel and will use the Blackberry only as a backup (as I did with the Sprint phone).

Originally, I was impressed with fact that the phone is Bluetooth enabled and excited that I could go from headset to "hands free" in my car. The problem is that it's not seamless. First, I have to disable the headset, then enable the "hands free" for the car. If I forget, then I have to do it while driving and that makes it more work instead of less. It's not a great big deal, but I thought it would be easier.

Typing on the 7100 has become fairly easy over the past weak. It's just a matter of time to get used to it. I'm a hunt and peck typist with the keyboard as it is, so I'm not super fast to begin with. If you type quickly you should get the hang of this keyboard inside 1 week. Plus, the "predictive typing feature" speeds you along as you're learning to use it.

I haven't synced it up with all my contacts in Outlook yet, but will let you know how it goes when i find the time.

Moving forward, I've disconnected Bluetooth in my car altogether so I'll use the headset when driving. Other than that, I'll only really use the phone as a back up or to talk to my wife (FREE T-Mobile to T-Mobile minutes).

Most importantly, in terms of organizing contacts, scheduling meetings and events, taking notes, and general use as a day planner - it's fantastic, so it will add to my productivity in those areas, as well as - accessing email and mesenging!

Definitely a cool ass tool!

All in all, I give it a 8 out of a possible 10, however, my rating would have been higher if T-Mobile had faster web browsing ... other provders MAY IN FACT offer faster connections.

:thumbsup :thumbsup
