That pretty hard to answer because straight porn has more diversive niches. I think gay porn does alot better than general straight porn niches (like teen). But niches like trannies, midgets, etc. will outperform general gay porn.

For every straight niche you have there are just as many gay niches to match. Even in the above where it says midgets that could fall into gay if you think about it. Then lets face it there are more gay's than there are people who are into clit pumping for example.

Gay men consume a lot of porn online as well as offline. They also do very well when it comes to real personal sites and or places that they can interact. You also will find that you will have less of that spouse found out I must charge back issue going on.

There are actually more gay market niches than there are straight ;)

Then again, the gay midget market is smaller than the straight midget market. So can you really draw a conclusion which one will make you more profit? It's just a matter of how dedicated you are to any of them.

As for overall profitability, I do not think the niche matters much at all aside from production costs. Profitability is really determined by your business model, how talented you are in selling what you do have, and making sure your pricing is reflective and based on its real value. Gay material often will come with a higher price tag for production, but this can easily be offset by a higher selling price due to lack of saturation from everyone with a digital camera.
