Is this proof that religion is bad ???

I was listening to Opie and Anthony today and they had a great point that I figured that I'd bring up.

If a gamer that plays GTA and other killing games goes out and kills someone, they blame video games.

If someone that watches violent movies goes out and kills someone, they blame the movies.

Well in this case - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7167861/ Someone went nuts at a church sermon and killed 7 people then himself. Does that mean that religion is bad ??? I bet you $100K that nobody will dare point the finger at religion in this case, but if it was someone that played GTA, they'd be suing Rockstar games.

I personally don't have anything against religion, I myself believe there is a God, it's just funny how in this situation, nobody will dare point fingers at it.

Well, I really donīt see the relation. They point the finger at violent games and movies, because they show violence. Religion does not show or teach violence, therefore it would not be the one being held responsable.

I take it you've never read the bible. It's probably the most violent book ever published.

Religion is one of the causes of most of the wars in history.

well it did not show violence at that particular sermon (sp?) so yes I agree the relation is not evident.

Scary, I've been to that hotel before.

It was some fundamentalist church. I suppose some people would even consider it a cult.

But how many average joes sit down every night and read the bible?

.0001 % of the population? Now how many of these average joes get
an urge to kill someone after reading it? if a person is religious enough to
actually read the bible, the odds of them going on and killing people are
very low.

I agree with Susan. Religion generally doesn't encourage violence. I can't
really think of a time when my priest said it's OK for me to kill. Games on
the other hand are designed to make it seem like killing and dying is ok,
since you have more lives.

just my :2 cents:

nofx 03-14-2005 10:51 AM

fuck yea

things like this should happen more often

stupid religious fucks

about time they start killing themselves off at a faster rate

warlock5 03-14-2005 10:51 AM

I disagree. That church taught we are living in the end times. For someone who may have been mentally unstable already that kind of stuff can completly disconnect them with reality. Just imagine how you would act if you lived your whole life thinking the world was going to end tommorow.

No shit. Also full of incest and other stuff. If the book wasn't called the Bible Jesus freaks would want to burn it.

B-I-N-G-O

Now, I donīt think religion teaches violence, but I do believe that it makes people disconnect with reality when they become too religious. I know of two sad cases where that happened.
