theres probably a million threads about donnie darko but
i finally saw it and wasnt impressed
understand i dont mean any direct offense when i say this but it seems like one of those movies categorically "dumb" people enjoy because they "get it" might not make sense what i mean but yea that movie was kinda gay |
you dont have to be ashamed if you didnt get it
|
I thought it was depressing.

it just seemed like it was trying to be overly profound maybe im biased because the movie was hyped up by everyone |
thw movie is basically like Devils advocative< you know the part when he is in the bathroom and does the flinch and that is where that whole movie takes place.. well it kinda like the same thing
donnie started a new medication and it was messing with him.. and the countdown till the end of the world is really the conuntdown for when the <shit hits his room and kills him > |
I loved it but it is one of those films that isn't for everyone, which is fine.
|
Nahh! Its all about Napolean Dynamite. :)
|
you have to watch it about 3 or 4 times to understand it all

Though, just get a multiregion player..we all have them over here. I think I heard someone say it was an Easter egg on the other versions so maybe where to find it can be found on the 'net. |

I thought that it was very stupid. But now everytime I see that actor, I remember that he is from that movie.

basically, as far as i saw it, this movie was about one's true destiny and the illusion of choice among the myriad of little maxims, subplots, and morals. the "end of the world" as it pertained to donnie was merely him realizing that if his path were to have deviated from him dying the night the jet engine came falling through the sky, many people would have been affected - he would have found true love, etc. etc. when he and the teacher are discussing the actual visual representations of "destiny" - those watery tube things, the question is posed that if one could see their own future, they could potentially change it. however, donnie admittedly followed the path up to his parents' bedroom after seeing it happen, then later in the movie at the halloween party, suggesting to me that knowing the future does not change it, part of "God's design" or groove or whatever the fuck donnie referred to it as. after living his life past his predestined point and watching those he loved and those around him fall - some victims to death - he understands the finality of what grandma death was trying to say: in the end, everyone does die alone, but it's because they have to face death alone. it shouldn't be feared because it is inevitable. that said, the movie itself was a little too predictable, but i'm usually pretty good at that kind of stuff. within the first quarter of the movie, i realized where the final date would end up, and i put frank as someone donnie would inevitably meet in a halloween costume. when his mother was forced to go to LA on the plane to star search, it hit me then that the mysterious engine probably came from that plane, as these time travel plots always contain some sort of paradoxial bullshit. again - the movie has its deep moments, yes, and i could argue the movie, but it didn't really break new ground or anything as far as im concerned. my moral: watch 12 monkeys or memento that shit is hype |
preview post matches table color perfectly but i got hacked

but my feelings are pretenious quasi intellectuals will make it a point to debate the shit out of this movie's significance when it isnt really that groundbreaking |
That movie was alright, nothing great, definitely not one I would buy. YTCracker's the mayne!! Respeck!!
|
Is 12 monkeys really that good?
I liked fight club. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet |

Most people that had seen Donnie Darko a few years ago probably went into it w/ no hype built around the flick... I'm guessing all the surrounding hype made Donnie look worse than it really was. Also Donnie Darko wasn't stylistically directed the way Memento was directed, now if maybe Christopher Nolan had an opportunity to direct it, you might've liked it more. My point is that, those movies are not comparable in the sense that you're using. btw... if you liked Memento, check out "Following" its a flick that Christopher Nolan did before Memento, its one of my fav movies. |

and yea in the way it was directed darko is just one of those movies where there are halfass attempts to obscure the blatantly obvious well blatant to true geniuses such as ourselves but to faceless emo fans listening to taking back sunday they have found some profoundness in the way the message was executed |
