Blog Questions...
 

I want to start a blog.
I want it to be something for my members as well as for seo stuff.
I have gotten a couple of different suggestions....1. go with a blog site (live journal, blogspot) and 2. start your own blog on your own domain.
What do you suggest I do?
Any tips?
I'm a blog newbie.

Always do it on your own domain. Why risk your business on a domain that you ultimately have no control of?

Just use http://www.wordpress.org or http://www.movabletype.org

Is there no advantage to being with one of hte blog urls? do they give traffic or a link or anything?

whats the deal with blogs? is someone making money out of it?

There is no money in blogs, there is great readership but no money :)
Use on of the free services first and dont spend too much money or time on it.

blogger.com has the advantage of being at the top on G's list to spider everyday. Also about everything gets backlinked so I think that is a pretty good advantage too (I've notice TypePad blogs get good SE rankings).

On the other hand I do agree with A&H, keep it in control and host everything yourself on your own domain. Having a dummy blog like blogger or typepad to link to it can help a bit :thumbsup

wordpress is de place.

I keep heraing that word press is the besst. But I dont use them myself.

Wordpress is great but finding time to write is a bitch.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but once again... Wordpress has been awesome and easy to setup. I'd go with their software.

Why not just make two copies of the same blog? One on your site url, and one on a generic blogger site?
