Opinions wanted on caching your porn sites
 

Ok this may be out in left field, but I want to throw it out there anyway. I work for a Content Delivery Network (CDN) company and was thinking of applying this to adult sites. Basically, as a customer we mirror your content at our locations around the world so pages load faster and cheaper. A surfer near Chicago would get the content from our Chicago location instead of the origin server, and a surfer in Germany would get the content from our Germany location, etc. It would obviously load faster and use less bandwidth. This way the customer wouldn't have to buy/install/maintain more hardware and bandwidth to maintain growth, they would just expand into ours and pay less doing so. This includes authentication so only members could download member content. Does this make any sense? Any comments?

I think the idea is good. You would need to aim it towards Paysites.

I guess it all comes down to the pricing.

The closer you are to the server the less hops there are. More hops = more bandwidth.

These sort of things were very easy to sell to dotcomers a few years ago, now not so much I guess.

What you don't mention is cost, I doubt that there are many adult webmasters that would see any return on investment unless the cost is pretty low.

This sounds an awful lot like Akamai, which I know some people in the adult segment are using.. (As well as big software companies, to automatically mirror software distros - Apple does this with Quicktime)..

more hops=more time, but not more bandwidth. If if push 100MB off of my server, that's 100MB off of my server, is makes no difference where the packets get routed to after it leaves.
