The Passion Of the Christ Recut, is Flopping So Far........
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/
In almost 1,000 locations on Friday, it made only $70,000, a whole $73 per location. That is a major flop. Just goes to show, if you are going to re-release something already out on DVD, you'd better make it unique with ADDED footage, not subtracted. I think Mel got a lil greedy on this one. |
wow that's amazing. i figured he would have made a nice little purse with that.

The Christian BDSM crowd stayed away after the flogging scenes were toned down / cut out.

talk about getting into a "sub niche" |
5 minutes cut isn't going to make much difference in the film, would have taken more like 20 :upsidedow
I guess people don't like movies with things cut out of them afterall :glugglug |
Lots of closet BDSM'ers in the church. C'mon you know Tammy Faye was wuppin' on poor lil' Jim Bakker.

why the floppola?
People that like "The Passion" went out and bought it on DVD; in fact, they made it one of the best selling DVD's of all time, behind only "The Lord of the Rings" movies, Shrek 2, Finding Nemo, and Spiderman.
Due to this, I think you can't put something in the theater again that people already own on DVD unless you add to it somehow, not by subtracting scenes. Or do something to it to make it 'interesting all over again,' much like Lucas did to the first 3 Star Wars movies when digital effects were taking hold, and he added effects to the first 3 flicks. I think a movie, an all time classic like "Jaws", would make a killing at the box office if it simply digitized the shark, kept everything else, and even added deleted scenes that ended up on the editing floor. Its gotta be different, and all Mel did was chop and slash his picture, no pun intended ;) |
its not exactly a movie you want to go see again in the theatre, or ever again for that matter.
|
that is not something that u want to see 2 times in a theater.

made only $240 K this weekend and thats in almost 1,000 theaters. That works out to about $84 per showing, or between 8-12 persons per showing. Mel, thats bad. |
