New AIM Terms of Service Suck

AOL changed it's terms of service. Have a look at this:

"...by posting Content on an AIM Product, you grant AOL, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote this Content in any medium. You waive any right to privacy."

Here's the source (with more information) that I recieved this from.

fuck AOL

AOL owns ICQ too - I had a quick look but I haven't seen anything in the TOS yet. However, I suspect that ICQ conversations can be treated the same way.

It's really the "performing" part that bothers me.

They are eavesdropping and will steal all your business plans :winkwink:

Robx 03-12-2005 04:55 AM

I sure hope not, I've had some really bad ideas ;)

So, if AOL is doing this, does it stand to reason that msn is, also?

And, Yahoo?

Nysus 03-12-2005 09:29 AM

I hope someone puts a stop to that. That's huge.

Yup, for a long time. It said right in there that Microsoft reserved the right to reproduce, publish or pretty much do anything they want with anything that was on their servers or in their systems, which included everyone's emails in hotmail.

A friend of mine says he doubts AOL records private chats. He thinks this applies to public postings.

My guess is that it also protects them in civil and criminal actions where they have to release information.
