how long have you been your own boss?

And what did you do before you came to adult? I used to work for Sprint's Datacenter in Sacramento as a computer operator, and then I worked for Oracle Corporation as an analyst.

I was pretty good friends with a guy I used to work with, who was friends with Slavik. At the time, I was a little leery about this whole 'online adult' industry, I thought it was all some crazy shit at first. But Slav gave me some pretty interesting pointers which I follow to this day. So I guess you could say I had a few friends that showed me the ropes more or less.

When I was working at Oracle, one of the sites I started out with in adult was Orgypost.com. I confided in one of my coworkers that I ran a site after one of them mentioned being curious about them. Well, I never really heard the end of it. From then on, one of them was calling me 'Larry' at company meetings that included my boss who always asked for an explanation. He'd respond with 'oh, ask Larry about his website' and I'd turn purple when all 35 of my coworkers would all turn and stare with amusment. After a while, people would start coming by my cubicle asking about the site, etc... eventually I started being a little more open about it.

So when I left the company, it was a gradual transition to shooting content for my clients.

What got you started in this biz?

Been self-employed for 3+ years now. Going to college fulltime to become an accountant. I used to design Websites, but the money was only good some of the time. Now, I help run an eBony paysite and that puts about $125/wk in my pocket (25%)... not bad for no affiliate program *cheap prices, about 80 members active*. Most of my income comes from the resale of quality domain names.

I was employed at a factory job at 19,boring but well paid....Had a car crash at 19 ,result couldnt walk for 2 years so spent time and studied electronics..opened my own little electronics factory at around 21 with 6 girls in the UK ......that grew in to a $5 million factory in H-kong with approx 2,000 people ....fell ill one day due to overwork, running such a big biz is hard work .....so moved back to the UK via a long rest (1 yr) in different beach resorts across asia ..spending the $$ like mad....Once l was back in UK l knew l couldnt do electronics again as its to expensive to produce there..so l started to distribute adult mags to stores ..and then expanded online .....thats basically it. :thumbsup

Before that, 6 years with Ameritech/SBC, and 2 with TDS Metrocom.

Got tired of working for the man so I broke free. Have had my own company on the side for a good 9 years prior though.

I've been self-employed since January 1999, when I was in college :) The only time I've ever had a boss when was I worked part-time as a cashier in high school. I hope to never experience the joy of having a boss again in my life!!

Since Aug. 2002
before that i was Art Director for a national automotive trade newspaper, hated working for someone else, but I loved doing editorial comics that was the only fun part.
Before that I was a jewelry designer/metal smith, designed one of a kind pieces sold my work in Art Galleries and Boutiques in VA, NC and OH, also owned a cleaning service.

Got my start in the biz designing websites, banners, logos for adult webmasters in '99, then got hired by OnProbation.com in late 2001, in between working for OP and the News Paper I started my own sites, link list first then I used the money I was making from OP to shoot my own models and opened my first paysite in the fall of 2002

Figured out I was doing well enough with consulting and affiliate marketing in December 2003, and quit a good sysadmin job at an internet company... Lost out on a lot of money when the company was taken over 3 months later, but I couldn't be happier :thumbsup
