BUSINESS THREAD: why isn't every major sponsor doing it?

Ok, I just started sending some traffic to SPA CASH and the very first sale I sent was worth $47.
Yes, it was a normal cheap trial sign up, but the sale came from Austria so the surfer paid in Euros so instead of $35 per sale I got $47.

As most of you know, the dollar is at its all time low compared to Euro today so this casues that the euro sign ups are worth so much.

IMO translating the tour pages into different local languages can realy help conversions but more importantly, paying $47 per trials also should attract webmasters.

I wonder why all the major sponsor cannot do it? They won't lose anything, because if they would bill the european surfer in Euros, then they also would get more dollars for each Euro sign up.

They probably do and just keep the extra $12

d00t 03-11-2005 01:21 PM

Very noble idea and you are right it is defiantely worth a shot.

Keeping in mind, euros is mainly good if:

a) you are keeping it in euros forever.
b) you never pay out in USD.
c) the USD is low, but if you live and work and make all your $ in usa, it doesn't affect you much.

Paycom does offer multiple currencies now - theres 50% of major sponsors option.
and finally, the surfer must have been charged more than the equal to USD for you to
actually make more from it, currency conversions would kill the sponsor unless they paid you in euros.

US surfer pays $1.95 per trial and sponsor pays $35 on that sign up.
European surfer pays 1.95 Euro per trial and the sponsor pays $47 on that.

No idea how long they keep the money in Euros, but overall, they still make more money if the surfer pays in Euro. And currency conversions aren't IMO such a big problem.

Anyway, Spa Cash does it so that must be possible :)

Wiggles 03-11-2005 02:13 PM

probably keep the extra cash just in case person doesn't fork out any extra money after trial is over.

I dont think many of the big sponsors bill european surfers in Euros.

Agreed, like to hear how some sponsors deal with this - or if they plan to!

my experience with applying Euro currency (without the exactly dollar conversion next to it) is that it confuses/scares customers.. they see the Euro sign.. dont know
shit about the euro just something they hear on cnn "all time high" and think fuck that.. maybbe 1 euro is $10 dollars..

It kills conversion and the extra 25% doesnt make up for it.

V_RocKs 03-11-2005 04:12 PM

They probably didn't know they were doing it and will probably cancel it now.

A bit in this case and not reading the topic well, i agree.

Except for the fair business side of things converting $ 35 to E 35 it would work.

bump for a good thread :)

I think spacash might of paid you $47 on a FULL MONTH join. NOT a trial. Can't see them paying that on a trial or they'll lose too much money.

Honesty be happy with $30-35 per trial, most of the Euro's are too hard to bill cause they don't have cards or the processors don't allow them cause the fraud rates are too high.

Yep gotta keep it in USA $ or conversions would be crap. People are simple and like to see the same stuff.

the second part is just not true... we are not talking about czech or poland here
he said austria
add the netherlands, germany, switzerland, gb, and many many others to the list.

billing in euros has drastically increased my income... why?? because even the average stupid american surfer can't read and thinks he's being charged $19.95 instead of 19.95? even though the join page clearly states what he is billed in...
you'd be surprised to see the huge difference.

Why not have the tours in English, German and Spanish then the major markets is covered.
Bill EU countries in Euro instead of $29.95 do ?29.95 and then pass the bigger payout to webmasters.
EU surfers goes to their own signup page with only the euro option.
Donīt see how it could affect the conversions besides the price being a bit higher.

Michael O 03-13-2005 08:13 AM

Oh yeah the crap about Europeans not having cards isnīt true.
If we are talking Western Europe a lot of people have Eurocard/Mastercard or VISA.

A well translated tour not the babelfish crap will improve sales no doubt about it.

Basic_man 03-13-2005 08:14 AM

Europeans dont have credit cards? nope, thats just the problem if you use shitty third party credit card processors that scrub almost all of the sales.

Verotel 03-15-2005 04:49 AM

No doubt about it, accepting Euro's or GBP's for that matter can increase your sales. It's a simple concept really, think about how much a Big Mac or a pair of Levi's cost in the states then see what they cost in most other parts of Western Europe - MORE! Europeans are used to paying more for the same product that costs less in the US.

We also just implemented multi-currency payments and the European webmasters love it! There's basically two schools of thought depending on where you the webmaster are located:

1. Europe - Set your pricing only in your preferred currency - you aren't affected by the fluctuations of the dollar so if you're billing all your customers in euros for example, when the dollar dives you still make the same amount of money.

2. U.S. - Set different pricing for different monitary regions (e.g., GBP for your British customer, Euros for Germany, Netherlands, France and other Euro countries, and Dollars for your US customers.) This method allows you to earn more from people who are willing to pay more, the Brits and the Euro countries.

Hit me up for more info or read about it on our website below.

Doesn't Traffic Cash Gold do this? I followed my links to their signup page and was offer a trial in Canadian dollars. Pretty sure they had Euros listed, as well.

no, they pay $35 per every sign up

they don't pay more for European sales

TheDoc 03-18-2005 03:10 PM

I think most don't because they can't process VISA US registered sites outside of the US. So they couldn't use CCBill EU on domains that process on CCBill US. You could setup clone sites, but at a risk.
