DirecTV vs. DISH network or any others

I've not had cable TV for the last 5-6 years. I like to read and I've never felt like I was missing something by not being able to watch FRIENDS or the FOX News network, but I digress...
It's time for various reasons to break down and order either DirecTV or Dish or some similar service. Help me make the right choice. My television viewing future is in your hands.

I like the PPV selection on DirecTV better, DirecTV has Sunday Ticket if your into NFL football. I have both right now and like DirecTV better and I Have HD with some channels on there.

LittleMack 03-11-2005 09:20 AM

I am happy with Dish, have had them for 3 years. I might switch to Direct TV for the Football package.

azguy 03-11-2005 09:21 AM

I HATE DISH NETWORK. NIGHTMARE is all I have to say

Stallion 03-11-2005 09:23 AM

I had cable for years and just recently switched to DirecTv. The picture is so much better quality than the digital cable. I am very pleased with it so far :)

GUNNER 03-11-2005 09:44 AM

looks like DirecTV is winning out here... only one person with nice things to say about Dish

GUNNER 03-11-2005 10:59 AM

bump

I know more than 4 motherfuckers have directv or dish network

Kre8t0r 03-11-2005 11:06 AM

Anyone want a slightly useless football card and a brand new card loader?
:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

I like DirectTV they have better packages and I rarely have signal problems. :thumbsup

I like DirecTV. I have never had Dish Network, but we have had DirecTV for years, and I have been happy with them. I also like the PPV and sports packages.

I just recently ordered Dish, have had it for about a month. I have been very happy with it.

I got a 4 room hookup, they only use 2 receivers. For my family room and master bedroom I have a DVR. It has two tuners and broadcasts the second tuner via UHF back through the cable lines in the house, so the master bedroom picks it up. I can share recordings with the two rooms.

Then in my office I have a second receiver which works the same way with a dual tuner, and goes out to my guest room.

Its a pretty cool way of setting it up.

Funny story is, I ordered DirectTV, I ordered it a month before I moved in to my new house. The day the installer came out (Friday, the day I moved in), it was pouring rain. The installer said he could not do the install, it would be too dangerous for him (it had stopped raining an hour earlier, but was still wet out). And that I had to reschedule. They could not get me rescheduled for another week, so I told them if I found anything else, I would be cancelling.

Two days later (sunday) a Dish sales person came to my door, offering me the new service. First I told him I already had DirectTV on the way, and his response was "I can get you installed sooner". I told him to go ahead and I would hear him out .. I ended up signing up, and the installer came out the next night at 6:30pm (I have a long drive home after work), and had me set up by 8.

I have 0 complaints about Dish network so far, the service has worked with no problems.

it's still leaning in favor of DirectTV, but it's a small margin. Another positive post for DISH and we'll have a tie.

I've had DirecTV for a while now and love it. Better PPV options and the NFL Sunday Ticket make it a no-brainer in my book.

DISH NETWORK SUCKS

Did you make up your mind yet? :thumbsup

Well, I did.. Horrible :) It's a mafia. But then again, many people I know are happy with them. DirecTV is a better choice by far.

pornguy 03-11-2005 11:47 AM

I had direc tv for about a year, and got sick of paying a ton to see more than just sports. So I got rid of it. If it is not in the news paper, then I dont need to know about it.

MikeB 03-11-2005 11:54 AM

DirecTV and Tivo are wonderful. It saves a lot of time! I've been happy with DirecTV. I had a new Tivo unit that had just fell out of warranty but they replaced it anyways. I'm waiting for the HD / Tivo / Directv boxes to come out. I saw some for $1K last time I checked.

I wish DirecTV offered more montly subscriptions to adult programming. I've heard that Dish has more options.

Good luck!

DirecTV with HD is fucking awesome, I wish the HD/Tivo boxes weren't $1000 or I would have got one of those.

bjjb 03-11-2005 01:25 PM

DirecTV with DVR is the shit!

chaze 03-11-2005 01:44 PM

You guys aren't making this easy... lol
after reading the posts, I'm leaning toward DirecTV, but it's not like one or the other is a clear cut winner here.

directfiesta 03-11-2005 05:48 PM

I have had both and I prefer DTV, Dish just doesn't have all the PPV's and like already mention only give you two recievers with DTV I have six. I could get Dish for free but I rather pay for DTV. I also have many football cards if anybody wants them;)

Sad but true. I sure do miss it. :(

Furious_Female 03-11-2005 06:42 PM

I don't have cable available where I live, so I have DirecTV and it's ok but I miss cable.

Why ???

Cable picture quality sucks, at least here. I hasd both cable and DTV, so I could compare easily...

Now I have FTA and have to cancel cable ( numeric witrh special decoder) ....

FunForOne 03-11-2005 07:09 PM
