Why mobile will be profitable for Webmasters

The most common question that we hear on this forum is "....but guys, why would anyone want to watch porn on their cell?". I want to tell you why and also say that if you ignore this market then you are letting revenue, that should be yours, slip through your fingers.

There are two types of content on mobile 1) Personal and 2) Personalised.
It's important to distinguish between the two to help you understand WHY consumers buy adult content.

1) Personal is the stuff that consumers enjoy in private, the 2-3 min video clips for $7 (yes $7, mobile phone content economics are unlike the 'net) and images/animations for $3. This type of content will commoditize fast and prices will fall due to competition and a flood of content to the worldwide market over the next 12 to 18 months...but consumer appetite will grow and that means sales volume will increase and there will be lots of room for many adult publishers to profit, if they have the right strategy.

Our data suggests that the majority of paying Adult Mobile Multimedia Content consumers tend to be the executive 'Playstation' generation (25-35 male demographic) with modern large screen phones like the Nokia 6600, 3650, Sony P900, Motorola RazorPhone etc...so their experience is excellent with large bright colour screens, sound and video.

Please note that low bandwidth streaming video on many adult websites defaults to 2x2 or 3x3" screen! And if you try and blow that up you lose resolution....so low bandwidth users have had to live with this small screen sizes for years, and webmasters have profited from it so why should the same not be true of mobile?

2) Personalisation content will always attract a premium. This is the stuff that consumer want to use as wallpaper, screen savers, games and moantones. And of course is needs to be subtle - but many consumers would rather have Terra Patrick licking-her-lips in close up as a screen saver or a psuedo moan/ringtone playing when their girl calls (subtle is the key - is that a moan or a tone??) rather than a dancing frog with an annoying song! Personalization content is huge, is price inelastic and if you can produce exclusive content then you will always attract a premium.

And this is just the beginning. Mobile is different because - well it's mobile! That means adult webmasters can not only sell their content to wireless customers on the go but they can reach their consumers anytime with time sensitive, geotargeted messages and multimedia content that drives them to WAP sites or back to the Web for upsells. If I get a message on my cell prompting me to logon to live streaming right NOW at discount as my favourite star is on, and all I need do is send a $3 reverse charge SMS for a pin number, then I'm gonna send that SMS and find a PC or fire up my WAP browser pretty damn fast.

Monetize this people, and you will have yourself a brand new - and very disruptive - adult entertainment business model.

Without question, Mobile will seamlessly extend the adult experience from PC to mobile-mode. SMS, MMS, Infrared, Bluetooth, Streaming Mobile Video, Mobile Chat, Location Tracking and Mobile Blogging will all contribute to the ultimate 'nomadic' adult experience. If i'm wrong I'll eat my Nokia. :thumbsup

We can discuss a sale, but I'd prefer to collaborate (private label/cobrand) but not opposed to selling/licensing.

Do other parts of the world also have commercial TV breaks filled with ads for ring tones and wallpapers? I'm in AU and it seems like every second commercial is selling a premium SMS subscription.

"If everyone is doing it, then it must work, right?" :Graucho

Anyone know of solid MMSC ( multimedia messaging service centers ) that have customizable services ? Basically, APIs and SDKs you can use to write your own apps with?

You're looking to send MMS messages from machine to end user via an API? Where are you based and we assume that it is adult content you want to send? I can help advise....

In the US. And yes, looking to build mobile content management and delivery (if possible) systems to send video, audio and image content to wireless users. There's solid info on the web for SMS, but not enough for MMS solutions; at least that I can find, and was curious if someone could throw down some more resources to check out.

The trick is traffic and partners.
Our experience in trying to convert surfers was very deceptive (why would you download a video to you cell when you can watch it fullscreen on your pc? How can you think about you next cool sexy cellphone screensaver when watching porn on your PC?).
You need to distribute your content where the users are and the only to places I saw conversions so far are cell phone companies portals (wap or net) and regular media advertising (press, tv etc). The thing is you can't go there yourself (take my word for it) so it comes down to who your partner with to get there.

What happens when someone under 18 gets ahold of the phone? Does the cell phone have a section that warns them? What's going to happen when the first guy is caught wacking off to your porn on a public bus? How about when my content is downloaded to the wrong phone? How do I control or monitor theft?

That and many other open questions keep me out of the cell phone porn market.

Same applies to a hard drive on a second hand PC that has been sold to a kid right? Doesn't it come down to common sense? If you are ging to give your cell to your neice/nephew then transfer or scrub your content...just as you would with a PC. And all phones have SIM pin number protection too.

A good platorm will make it IMPOSSIBLE to download adult content to the worng phone. Some adult mobile platforms allow you to send pics/videos to 'a friend' by typing in their mobile number..we think this is a huge ethical, legal and architectural mistake.

Theft. We are DRM'ing content for many of our clients and prevent 'fowarding' of content using DRM 1 'Forward Lock'

Wacking off on a Bus? I think he'd miss his stop for sure!

A Dad having porn saved some place on the HD of a PC is a bit different than grabbing Dads cell phone that has porn and taking it to the movies. Or when parents buy kids the phone, they download my porn, and take it to school to show friends.

Even if it's pin protected most default pin #'s are never changed and most kids know the pin. It?s easy when Dad is driving and needs to access a feature to see what the pin number is.

It's different if the teen views porn in the parent?s house, in private, that's the parent?s responsibility and problem. I do what I can to prevent underage people from viewing our site; a warning page, rated tags, credit cards, etc.. Parents aren?t responsible enough to monitor underage teens online now so why would anyone think they would give a shit about blocking out the porn on a cell phone.

When the underage person takes the phone into public and displays our photos/videos to other underage people, then that is an issue that I need to worry about. This is just waiting to happen and someone I?m sure will be made an example of when it does.
