Anyone host an adult web server at home?

I am considering moving a dedicated server into my house, literally. Is anyone hosting an adult web server at their residence and if so who provides the bandwidth? Any other details or comments appreciated.

You are joking right?

With the prices of co-location why would you consider doing it at home?

I can give you the in's and out's... Yes this was popular in the past when people had T1 lines but todays datacenters and bandwidth prices it's not feasible anymore.

Can you afford a big line??

I host all my sites on my Gamecube.

I was considering it simply for the convenience of quick physical access. I have not kept up with bandwidth prices, have prices into the home not dropped as much as bandwidth at a datacenter? I can afford no more than $1000 a month for bandwidth.

I can get you a lot of bandwidth for $1000 a month.

It will be much cheaper than hosting at home.

I thought it might have come down more but your right a quick check showed business class offerings from two cable operators charge about $700-$1000 for a 1.5 to 2 Mbps connection so it is indeed still alot cheaper to colocate. I guess I'll look for a datacenter nearby as easy physical access is important to me.

We have all our servers in Moose's basement. The rain the past couple months have been killing us. Servers keep flooding!

I was kidding about the basement. We have our servers in a San Diego based data center.

Unfortunately quite a bit north or your location between San Jose and San Francisco. I'll go check out your site anyway though to see what you offer.

Sly 03-10-2005 09:51 PM

We don't have prices for co-location listed on our site, if you would like those details just let me know.

Why do you want the added responsibility of having to drop everything and run to the DC to service your colo box. It would be easier to lease the server and let the DC handle any hardware issues. Plus with $1000/mo budget you can get some serious bandwidth on one or more monster box(es) and still have change.

JCK,
I used to host my site and video server from my house.
I had 3 DS1's (T1's) into my house. I got my bandwidth from the phone company. I was paying around $1500 a month for each DS1.
