Diary of a South African who moved to Canada to get away from the strife in South Africa

JAN 24
5.pm. Its started snowing, the first of the season and the first real
snow we have ever seen. The wife and I took our buttered buns and sat by the window watching the snow flakes drifting down, clinging to trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful!

JAN 25
We woke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the
landscape. What a fantastic sight. Every tree and shrub was covered with a beautiful white mantle. I shovelled snow the first time and loved it. I did both our driveway and the sidewalk. Later the City snowplough came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street but the driver smiled and I waved back and continued shovelling.

JAN 26
It snowed an additional five inches last night and the temperature has dropped to around 10 degrees below. Several branches on the trees and shrubs have snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shovelled our driveway again. Shortly afterwards the snowplough came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is now a brownish grey.

JAN 27
Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush which soon
became ice again when the temperature dropped again. I bought snow tyres for both cars. Fell on my bum in the driveway, $145 for the chiropractor, but nothing broken. More snow and ice expected.

JAN 28
Still cold. Sold wife's car and bought a 4X4 in order to get to work.
Slid into the guard rail and did considerable damage to the right rear panel. Had another six inches of white s**t last night, both
vehicles covered in salt and crud. More shovelling in store for me
today. The damn snowplough came by twice today.

JAN 29
Minus 15 degrees outside! More f***ing snow! Not a tree or shrub on our property that hasn't been damaged. Power was off most of the night, tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a
kerosene heater which tipped over and nearly burned the f***ing house down. I managed to put all the flames out, but suffered second degree burns on my hands and lost all my eyebrows and eyelashes. The car skidded on the way to the Hospital and was written off.

JAN 30
Mother f***ing white s**t keeps coming down! I have to put on all the clothes we own just to get to the mailbox. If I ever catch that son of a bitch that drives the snowplough, I will chew his chest open and rip out his heart. I think the f***er hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shovelling then comes down the street at about 100mph and buries the f***ing Driveway again. Power still off. The toilet froze and part of the f***ing roof has started to cave in.

JAN 31
Six more inches of f***ing snow and f***ing ice and God knows what other kind of f***ing s**t fell last night. I wounded the f***ing
snowplough asshole with an ice pick, but he got away. The wife left me, the car won't start and I think I'm going snow-blind. I cannot move my toes, haven't seen the sun in weeks and there is more snow predicted. Wind chill is minus 22 f*****g degrees!

f**k it - I'm moving back to SA.

Well, we just left the US in December and moved to Cancun...love it here

Canada, I was in toronto for 8 weeks when I was 18. Nice place.
Another option of mine is spain, since I fucking hate the finnish winter, and moving inside EU is easy.
