A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.

"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.

"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. ... There is no point in resisting."

"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.

Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon.

Who say what. They control the media... so :2 cents:

stevo 03-09-2005 05:11 PM

Why lie?

Furious_Male 03-09-2005 05:12 PM

The gun fight in a modest home would have made a good story as well.

OH crap. Here we go again. I bet they didn't even capture him.

roly 03-09-2005 05:36 PM

if that story is true i guess the reasoning behind it was to make saddam look like a coward cowering in a hole rather than a hero (to some of his own people and the arab world) for putting up a battle before being arrested.

Same writer as the " Jessica Lynch Story: a true hero " ....

Now you are ruinning the " feel good" effect for Americans. That's not nice. It makes you an " America Hater " ....

Jessica was blasting her gumns, Saddam was in a spider hole and Baghdad shines with an overflow of electricity ....

Shoehorn! 03-09-2005 07:17 PM

Interesting, but who really knows who to believe?

Triple 6 03-09-2005 07:21 PM

remember the saddam imposters?

you guys ever seen that footage of some iraqi that was working at a gas station, looked dead, DEAD ON like saddam but wasnt him - i seen this shit on CNN, it was crazy.

i dont know what to believe anymore

except

ah fuck it nevermind

fuelcell 03-09-2005 07:25 PM

UPI is the UPN of news reporting . . . not a very reliable source. Besides, the Iraqis themselves claimed at the time that they, not the Americans, discovered Saddam and lead the Americans to him. Link? Damn, I can't find shit in my booikmarks anymore.

PHPdude 03-09-2005 07:45 PM

stuff like these really makes everything hell a lot more confusing

Doesn't USA have a policy of NOT sending soldiers of Arab descent to fight in Iraq, or any Arab country for that matter?

emthree 03-09-2005 10:10 PM

I dont really believe that story
But I'm pretty sure all the media releases were partially fabricated and "powdered up" for release to the people :2 cents:

I really don't give a shit either way. They captured him.... that makes me happy enough.

jamesonxx 03-10-2005 01:36 AM

How many guys look like Saddam anyway? :1orglaugh

Kevsh 03-10-2005 01:39 AM

Hmm, I wonder how his "trial" is going anyway? Maybe I've been in a cave but I haven't heard anything about it for a long time.

PenisFace 03-10-2005 01:40 AM

The modest home story with Sadam shooting is much more believable than the hiding in hole story. Sadam doesnt seem like the kind of guy that would hide in a hole... Judging from his history, I'd say the modest house story is the real version of events. :2 cents:

read what he is saying and it makes sense. First off he is a former marine "Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh" (name sounds pretty arabic) . he says : "and we found him in a modest home" Why the use of the word "modest." You can tell this is propanda by the wording... "We captured him after fierce resistance." "Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor." This is totally trying to show that saddam is a warrior etc etc bla bla. this is totally worded to be slanted. Not saying there is no truth in it but I doubt it.

Rui 03-10-2005 03:41 AM

I wonder how some of you find this "suprising"...the "hole" thing had fake written all over it...

I'm not surprised... that hugely popular image of the Iraqi people pulling down his statue was staged too. Have you seen the zoomed out images?
