Was/is there a "Copacabana"

And was music and dancing always the passion? And was it really the hottest spot north of Havana?

pornguy 03-08-2005 11:49 PM

Yes there was, and Is. and yes it was and is the hottest spot. If you have never been to cuba, you should go and check it out.

Fucking Cuban embargo. I'll have to sneak in through Canada sometime and hope I don't get caught.

Written and composed by Barry Manilow and based on his Grammy winning song of the same title, Copacabana is the tale of love and romance set at the heart of the swinging nightclub scene of the 1940s. While creating the world?s next big hit, Stephen, an aspiring songwriter, is carried back to an era when ?music and passion were always the fashion? at the world famous Copacabana nightclub in New York City.
In his dream, Lola Lamar, a hopeful showgirl, is launched on the path to stardom as a Copa Girl with the help of Tony Starr, a bartender with dreams of his own. Captivated by Lola?s performance, the villainous Rico whisks her away to the Tropicana nightclub in Havana. From this exotic, distant new world, a tale of old-fashioned love, jealousy, and murder in the entangled lives of Lola, Tony and Rico unfolds amidst dazzling costumes, spectacular sets and sensational choreography.

So begins Barry Manilow?s 1978 Grammy-winning song, ?Copacabana (At the Copa).? The lyrics are by Bruce Sussman and Jack Feldman.

The club began in the early 1940s and was located at 10 East 60th Street. The name is from Rio?s famous beach, Copacabana, in Brazil. In 2003, a club with the same name was opened at 560 West 34th Street.

Groucho Marx and Carmen Miranda (the dancer with the fruit hat) star in Copacabana:
