Anyone remembers altavista
 

Just noticed on one of my domains 700 uniques from altavista for february and I tough "what a fuck?!?". I tought altavista is dead. :1orglaugh

It is, but like every corpse, it keeps on twitching for a bit after it died :1orglaugh

they send me quite a few hits . . . I did not know people still used them

altavista used to be what google is for me now 6 years ago...

I remember getting great traffic from them years ago.
But I don't see much of it now adays

True, true. At one time they were considered the "google" of the SE world. My, did they ever drop the ball.

altavista is still good but when it comes to traffic nowadays...google and yahoo are the good ones.

I liked alta vista. And they still send me traffic.

I used them all of the time back in the day. Then google came along....

altavista and infoseek were the best and they were pretty
good if you wanted to find something you were looking for.

Good for traffic and good for surfing.

Google sucks now if you're looking for something really quick ?

word. Altavista was the fucking bomb for me. Anyone remember dmoz? How about hotbot? Used to get a lot of traffic from them. Remember when AOL was as easy as just getting a dmoz listing and waiting for the checks?

I remember using AltaVista in like '96

altavista used to be great. ah the memories.

Yes, altavista use to be the TECH SE of the dawn of the net... then it sold for a ridiculous amount of cash, and burnt into the ground quickly..

I hope google review and learn from this as I am seeing the same changes beginning in google as altavista did before they killed it, the tech searches are becoming way too loose, picking up way too much crap and not doing as well, hopefully they can fix this without bleeding the dam thing too much to impress investors.

money changes everything, there's new search engines on the way now which will take over for google when it goes... start hitting them now!

Google is overrated, soon to be spammed to death. I got higher quality traffic coming from Yahoo and MSN.

I used to be a diehard altavista user... then they started to suck bad and even brought out popup ads... I sent them an email saying popups are annoying and their search engine sucks and i am moving to google..

A YEAR later they actually wrote back to tell me they stopped using popups and wanted me to come back

they were amazing until google, then they had a popup for a bit and then they got bought out or something and totally went garbage.

Av was good but the real money was in Excite :)

I remember being #1 on AV for 'fuck" back in the day. Soooooo many signups ;)

Yes for a period in time early on, HotBot & Altavista were excellente. Same for the dmoz. But then you got the usual greed that took over, and the tailspin.

oh hell yeh, excite used to have some rocking traffic as far as money spenders...

I miss those days...if I knew then what I know now, you'd not be reading this text as I'd be retired and playing somewhere else atm...
