Intel or AMD

Just want to know what's your preferred chip on your CPU?

who 03-08-2005 06:12 AM

IF you live in a cold place, AMD. they overheat like a sunday rapist at a girlscout meet.

That's not accurate, the Intel P3 chips had serious trouble with heat, but the 90nm Athlon 64s run around 5c cooler than the 130nm ones. They certainly aint got no problems with heat.

DarkJedi 03-08-2005 06:18 AM

AMD.

Get Athlon 64 3500+ and overlcock the fuck out of it.

:thumbsup

LOL STFU...

A64 are much cooler than P4 Northwood, let alone P4 Prescotts (110w default rocks eh)...

noob :disgust

Maybe you should learn how to setup a cooler?

Anyway what you mentioned (AMD beeing hotter than Intel) goes back into pre Thunderbird era = some years ago..

still living in the past ehh

DarkJedi 03-08-2005 06:45 AM

Soon to be released: Athlon 64 4200+ http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=21646

Er... I, just like MOST people, DO know all about the THINGS I HAVE EXPERIENCED MYSELF... dude... seriously... does your dad work for them or something.. :321GFY

spideriux 03-08-2005 10:38 AM

I think that Intel is better, but costs more.

Barefootsies 03-08-2005 10:46 AM

I personally like AMD over Pent. I think they are faster chips overall in my experience. I've sat my computer(s) next to a comparible Pent with same nichnacks, and AMD just seemed to be over all faster.

But there is so many factors that play into such things with configurations, and alike. Much too complex to go into here, but can make an enormous difference in performance and such.

However,.. I will say this. If you get a nice performing AMD chip, make sure you get TWO FANS installed in the case. That's right, TWO of them. Regardless of video card, and blah blah. I've had 6 AMD computers, and a few of them overclocked, and they can easily overheat and blow out a motherboard. So now I build them all with dual fans to prevent this.

I do a lot of video editing, and run a lot of intense programs and games on some of them, and I am sure that contributes, but all the same, just o protect yourself, make sure you get TWO fans and/or any other types of cooling options available. They will help both performance, and blowing out a motherboard. ;)

:pimp

Or you live in a 3rd world country that doesn't even know what is a Barton let alone a Winchester are :321GFY

I had AMD for 2 years and never had a problem, and I don't think I live in a cold place ;)

AMD is better value for money, as somebody mentioned already, but every now and then you'll have some compatibility issues, everithing was/is built to work with Intel.

amaze 03-08-2005 12:13 PM

what are the cpu going to do. if you are going to play games... go for the AMD.... if it the rest Intel :2 cents:

You're wrong.
AMD beats intel.

Intel is popular because of all the branding and marketing.

Tony Montana 03-08-2005 12:19 PM

I have amd 64's in both my laptop and pc

way better than pent's imo

Heat sinks and fans aren't optional. :1orglaugh

pornguy 03-08-2005 12:26 PM

I prefer the amd but got stuck with a p4 on my laptop. I needed the laptop right away, and they amd ones were back ordered. Next time I will wait.

Guess he should stick to buying pre-built computers (like those great walmart ones with Celeron & onboard gfx lol) :winkwink: :1orglaugh

webcrawler 03-08-2005 10:55 PM

I've used the Athlon 2GHz and P4 2GHz, AMD works better for me.

uno 03-08-2005 11:25 PM

I've only used AMD since 98.

Vitasoy 03-08-2005 11:25 PM

Best bang for the buck, AMD.

HEARTBREAKER 03-08-2005 11:30 PM

AMD is always the best for quality and $$ worth! :thumbsup

Most people should know better to buy a celeron anything. Serious cache limitations if you do a lot of graphics heavy programs/editing.

Yep. Same here. I think it was actually '97 but all the same. Only time I've used anything else is at workplace, or when I've had to fix someone's Intel.

GweedZilla 03-08-2005 11:34 PM

I'm a big fan of AMD, but both have their pros and cons. Depends on what your going to use it for specifically. Theirs about a billion and a half good benchmarks/reviews around at sites like tomshardware and hardocp, etc that are useful. I just built myself an AMD 3500+ rig a week ago and fuck... its fast :)

woj 03-08-2005 11:38 PM

you get better value with an amd....

VeriSexy 03-08-2005 11:39 PM

I have always used Intel cause they are very stable. I know AMD CPUs "used" to fire if you don't place the heatsink on properly. I would have fired my Intel CPU if it didn't auto reboot if it got too hot..... Problem was solved when I put the heatsink on properly :winkwink:

I will give AMD a try next time :thumbsup

Can AMD be used for servers as well? Most hosting companies offer Intel based servers.

jukeboxfrank 03-08-2005 11:43 PM

I have used Pent's for over 20 yrs never wanted to have a AMD.
Why drive a ford if you have the money for a BMW. You do get what you pay for.

Sparks 03-08-2005 11:47 PM

Intel all the way

My AMD overheats and freezes when I'm editing video. I need more COOLIN POWER!!!

webcrawler 03-09-2005 01:48 AM

Try using a Thermaltake Volcano cooling fan for your AMD.
