Google is turning into a nasty piece of work!
http://www.google.com/support/toolba...=features.html
Autolink is similar to MS Smart Tags technology Read about it here: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/02/20/1926227 Comments can be made at the following URL destination: http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/request.py Works with IE. There is a dreamweaver extension available that claims to block it: Use the "Link to Dreamweaver Behavior Extension" hyperlink to download it. http://www.dhtmlnirvana.com/content/...ink/index.html Now we've got to add more code to our pages to make sure we are not inadvertently helping to line the already full Google coffers! This is almost akin to a realtor selling my house putting other for sale signs on my front lawn advertising his other properties! Cheers |

Shoehorn, all you really have to understand here is that Google's toolbar now come with an option called Autolink. This enables google to track a user's surfing habits based on the pages he is on (for example your site) and then directs them to content they may be interested in. If I have understood correctly, users will be directed to the pool of Google advertisers.

Typical.
Google came on the scene, and became one of the most popular search engines. Now they have started Gmail, and will soon position themselves to take on Yahoo! in the next 3-5 years. Watch and see which telecommunications company partners, or merges with them. :disgust |
They sure have been a bitch to me as of late :disgust

1. Yahoo 2. MSN 3. Google It is Google that wants to get past MSN! |
I hope they allow me to buy the smart tag & email traffic by itself. Adsense has hurt the ppc profitability.

Google is owned by The Man now, get used to it ... btw, since this is a Google thread (okay, more of a Google-bashing thread) I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend O'Reilly's Google Hacks book, v2.
It was recently updated (Dec.'04) I think and is an excellent resource for advanced searching using Google - but also very relevant to webmasters and SEO's. There is one chapter specific to SEO that is primo for those starting out and scratching their head on how to rank well. I rarely buy any geek books, but this one is worth it big-time for putting numerous tips/tricks together, etc. Okay, get on with your Google-bashing again :pimp |
Viva La Yahoo

I've been hating Google ever since their update on Superbowl Sunday :disgust

That's not unusual.

Wasnt MSN using Y results until a few months ago? That doesnt really make 'em on top of G. I dont know one single person who uses Y or MSN anymore (maybe that's cause I brought them all over to the dark side of G?). I agree that the autolink function is kinda of intrusive, but i dont think they need to put this into place to be able to track traffic... in a way they arent tracking traffic of G browser users, but redirecting it (?)... Cant they just track user activity much like Alexa does? My 2 cents...
