Sales Increase by Eliminating 3rd party billing systems?
When a site hosts its own SSL server (ie, you host the credit card form on your domain,
https://secure.yourdomain.com) I expect an increase in conversion rate because of the improved usability. Surfer never leaves your site, you control signup and surfer flow. Bingo, higher conversions. How much more? 10%? 20%? Verisign says there's a 32% increase in conversion when you host the signup form. |
Agreed, the only difficulty is getting a merchant account for high-risk. I know a few people who provide them, so leave your details in the thread if interested.

I am looking for a merchant account for Adult Personals sites that is Viasnet/Vital compliant. If you know any I'm interested.

I often thought this too. once they see that new url they wonder what is up.

32% seems high.
And not everyone is ready to manage their own merchant account. |

netbilling can get you a merchant account ( www.netbilling.com )
very good people, getting adult merchant accounts is what they do. Quote:

Use a company like netbilling and there is nothing to manage.

But it's not quite so simple as "control signup and surfer flow". When you have a direct relationship with the merchant bank, you're not only cutting out the middle-man transaction fees, but you can also control the types of transactions that you offer for different markets. For example, if you discover that 1-year memberships have a 50% chargeback rate in Egypt, then you can decide you don't sell 1-year memberships in Egypt. On the positive side, you can significantly improve profitability and lower CB rates. On the negative side, you're alone facing the possible consequences of having miscalculated on your price/market models, and can find your company SOL. j- |
yea sales do increase for sure, by how much im not sure. But the good thing is that you have so much more control over things that 3rd party systems like ccbill just can't do. Not to mention your processing fees can be cut in half or more.

The good thing l find with our own merchant account is that we get to accept or decline most of the transactions and dont have to carry the burden of balancing a percentage of good and bad like 3rd party processors.....it makes a huge difference to our sales.

Although the profit margin grows considerably, its not necessarily true that you are left to the wolves on fraud control .. that is dependant upon which payment gateway you use.
For example, our gateway has full fraud capabilities build right in with a negative database thats been compiling during more than 7 years of processing on the net. Clients get the benefit of that along with cvv2, avs, etc. Having good fraud control is the number one tool for merchants when it comes to keeping charge backs down and maintaining good merchant account status. wimpy, as for keeping the form on your server .. there is a fine line here, Visa has some very strict guidelines/regulations on whom they allow to collect cc information. The premise of this makes perfect sense when you think about it ... do you want YOUR cc information to be available to any webmaster that knows how to create a form? What about the employees of that site? You can see where I'm going with this i'm sure. In order to help combat identity theft and fraudulent charges the big associations have set regulations so that only compliant gateways have authorization to collect the sensitive data. Hope that clears a few things up? |
