Do you think that adult sites should have a designated domain?
 

I have heard talk in Congress of a law that would make all adult sites have a .xxx or equivalent extension to better differentiate between adult and non-adult sites as well as be able to better restrict adult content from minors. I actually don't think this would be a bad idea. Do you agree or disagree with this propsosal?

think about what isp's and all kinds of peopel could do with every adult site on a single extension....they could just filter shit out at that level and never have to worry about porn in the hands of children again

I'm not necessarily for it 100% in any way. But, I think a designated extension wouldn't be a HORRIBLE idea. I'm not saying obliterate the internet as it is and start over all adult sites on a designated domain, but maybe start one for additional sites, new sites, etc. and have an option for a designated domain. I'm not really big on limits on freedom of speech at all, which this essentially is. However, I think it's also important for people in this industry to be responsible to prevent minors from accessing pornography. That's basically the point I am trying to make. I also like seeing people getting all FIRED up!!!

Bad idea. A minor that 'stumbles' across porn was probably looking for it. So if a kid wants porn, they'll just have to type in niche.xxx. If anything it defeats the point of having the xxx TLD.

Who do you think would be enforcing what websites can use .com, .net, .whatever domain extensions? ICANN. And where is ICANN they located? If you think this shit will only affect americans, then you should probably be doing some reading on the subject.

My understanding is that it would essentially be like a massive AVS where anyone that accesses the domain would have to prove their age and then get a username and password or something for access. So, it wouldn't be simply entering porn.xxx and gaining access. It is just an idea out there that hasn't really been thought very far, but that is my understanding of one of the ideas. I wouldn't be for that because that really would open Pandora's Box, though.

I like this for a new law better: Leave your kids unattended with the internet and they get exposed to porn it's the same crime as leaving explicit books and tapes in their reach. :upsidedow

No doubt parents should bear the burden of the blame. I think the overall quality of parenting has been on a decline over several years and that parents are the best regulators.

I think that if the government went after a few parents for allowing their children to look for porn, then a few thninga may change fo us for the better.
