Does anyone here still actually use a VCR?

I haven't used a VCR for what seems like years. I have a shitload of VHS tapes just sitting around collecting dust.

Does anyone here still use a VCR or has it pretty much all switched over to DVD?

viki 03-03-2005 07:04 PM

I still do. VHS tapes are extremely cheap now, and it's not like the quality is terrible. I buy things on VHS when I only kind-of want them but don't think they warrant a $20 (or more).

I havent used a VCR in ages

I laugh at people buying the tapes still

DarkBob 03-03-2005 07:11 PM

I unhooked my vcr a long time ago. I still have my laser disc player hooked up, but it's pretty much worthless now too. My dvd collection is much bigger than my vhs collection ever was.

chupachups 03-03-2005 07:13 PM

I trying to go 100% digital - threw out like 200 tapes two months ago.

I dont use one for viewing VCRs but one of my family rooms still has a sound system run through one.

Inde 03-03-2005 07:23 PM

that's funny.... haven't touched one of those in years

Spunky 03-03-2005 07:24 PM

Raises hand...although I haven't used it in 4 years :helpme

viki 03-03-2005 07:25 PM

I think it depends on if you're a big movie buff or not, I'm definitely the latter. Besides, I couldn't possibly buy a COPS DVD with a straight face.

jhauser 03-03-2005 07:37 PM

Whats a VCR? lol just kidding I use mine for family videos. My grandparents dont know how to burn cds so we exchange video footage the old fashioned way.

thefool 03-03-2005 07:39 PM

I have over 600 movies on VHS and another 150 disney movies on VHS so I use my vcr when I want something classic to watch. But mostly it just gets used for the kids. All the more recent (past 2-3 yrs) everything I've bought has been on DVD. (they take up so much LESS ROOM!!!)

edit: almost forgot... most of my porn collection is on VHS lol so yeah I guess I do use the VCR occassionally

fl_prn_str 03-03-2005 08:00 PM

Sosa 03-03-2005 08:05 PM

we do, we have some workout videos on VHS that me and my gf use.

SykkBoy 03-03-2005 08:17 PM

over 650 vhs videos, yeah, still use a vcr (until I get the energy/time to start burning everything onto DVD)

sickkittens 03-03-2005 08:19 PM

I rarely use it. Only for older drum solo/lesson tapes I still have.

Is that like 8-track or something?

SomeCreep 03-03-2005 08:27 PM

I use my vcr all the time. Way more than my dvd player.

pr0nspyder 03-03-2005 08:35 PM

I have a VCR somewhere in the basement but I haven't touched it in years.

Vitasoy 03-03-2005 08:37 PM

Haven't used my in a long time.

Holly 03-03-2005 08:49 PM

I do. I have tons and tons of VHS tapes. I'm too lazy to burn them all and most of them I doubt I would watch, even though I won't throw them out. I also have a lot of home/personal videos that are on VHS. I really, really need to burn all those on to DVDs and stick the tapes somewhere safe as a back up. I'll probably do that right after I clean out all my closets and tupperware cabinet (never).

Babagirls 03-03-2005 08:50 PM

i gotta watch my old vhs pornos somehow lol

Peaches 03-03-2005 08:51 PM

The tuner is out on the TV in the bedroom so I have to use the VCR tuner so the TV works. Every once in awhile I'll stick an old tape in there and watch it. Mostly just fun, goofy stuff that you can pick up at the dollar bin at Target like old tv show episodes :)

Zerof8 03-03-2005 08:54 PM

only when I want to rent something that I cant find on dvd.

wedouglas 03-03-2005 08:58 PM

mine broke years ago...why would i replace it? im extremely anti old technology...

rowan 03-03-2005 10:26 PM

My parents in law asked me to record a program for them... I couldn't be bothered setting up the VCR to record off-air so I just chucked a blank DVD-R disc into the DVD recorder.

The only time I use the VCR now is to transfer from analog VHS tapes to digital DVD-RAM discs.

Pornwolf 03-03-2005 11:24 PM

Fuucccck! I haven't even seen a VCR in a couple of years!

RawAlex 03-03-2005 11:27 PM

I have an s-vhs machine that I use for making demo tapes for clients when doing editing work for them. Sometimes clients actually want the finished product on VHS. It isn't exactly overwhelming popular. With the arrival of HD tv, I think you will see these things disappearing pretty quickly.
