Help Us Convince RRRed to Scuba Dive!!!

RRRed's not sure about diving in Cancun and needs some GFY words of encouragement! :thumbsup

KMR Stitch 03-03-2005 03:22 PM

You know how many people get trapped in those caves and drown every year.

Not many but good luck =)

swedguy 03-03-2005 03:24 PM

Or have the mask crack on them when they reach 60 feet under

haven't happened yet, and never will :winkwink:

Diving is awsome. You should do it :)

WiredGuy 03-03-2005 03:24 PM

I want pics of RRRed in a swimsuit :)

Missy 03-03-2005 03:25 PM

okok, there will be no caves, and no water deeper than like 35 feet. No sharks, no man-eating squids. She's got nothing to worry about!
Come on... back me up here!

Thats not a Scuba Dive.. thats like Snorkleing depth lol

lagwagon 03-03-2005 03:34 PM

i got certified when i lived on Guam, that is one is the coolest things that i have ever done in my life. you have to at least go down to 20 (my farthest depth is 160 ft, lol at that depth with each breath you can see the psi pin move ), you might think that snorkeling is ok but when you are completely submerged and have the freedom to swim where you like its a whole new game.

Phoenix 03-03-2005 03:39 PM

oh it sounds fun..speedos for all

I believe 35 feet is the deepest they allow you to go without being certified. But I saw more life at 25 feet than I did at 65, so it's plenty!

SmokeyTheBear 03-03-2005 03:45 PM

Scuba diving is one of the most amazing experience you will ever have rrred.

Its right up on the top of my list along with sex and having a baby. ( that says alot considering i'm a guy )

You wont regret it. You are 100 times more likely to get hurt driving to the beach as you are getting hurt scuba diving.

Head 03-03-2005 03:49 PM

He's better not get certed. in Cancun cause you'll never learn everything you need to know in one day.

flashfire 03-03-2005 03:52 PM

just do it, sounds like fun

Chio The Pirate 03-03-2005 03:57 PM

YARGH!!! RRRED Seeing the squigly Squids up close is better than eating freshly grilled flubber rubber Orca blubber. AHOY! do it, ye never regret it, unless of course you drown in which case ye be dead!

Theo the Theologian be getting his license soon too. Maybe you could both walk me plank 'o' death, and explore the vast seas in search of booty for the good ship Chio together!

OK...Thanks for your input. Now onto somebody who actually knows WTF they are talking about.....

RRRED....Cancun is a fine place to dive. They have great dive instructors who do this for a living every day of the year. The FIRST step to certification includes about an hour of classroom time and a basic test. Then some pool time and THEN a 30-35 foot dive.

This is not a full blown certification though. If you like the experience then you can continue through the rest of the certification program which takes another 3 to 4 days depending on where you go.

Diving is like no other experience in the world. DO not pass this up or you will kick yourself later. :2 cents:

Don't make me use my karate chop on you!

Penthouse Tony 03-03-2005 05:37 PM

It's probably not going to be diving any deeper than a pool. Only difference is you don't have to come up for air.

UPDATE:
After many hours of negotiation, threats, bribes and lies, RRRED has finally come to realize that this would be super fun and has decided to go with us on our deepwater (35 ft...cough) adventure. Discussion closed, thanks for all your help on this matter.

It's not exactly a 3rd world training facility they have there. :glugglug

http://ampcontent.com/Pikz/CancunPool2.jpg

Kimmykim 03-03-2005 06:18 PM

Go for it girlie! You'll regret it if you don't. I wanted nothing to do with it for years, and then when I was in PV for my birthday I tried it. Then went again in Curacao, and I'm going to get certified this spring --

Since you're not certified you'll have either an instructor or a dive master with you at all times, and they won't take you deep enough that you'd need any decompression stops along the way either.

The director of this charity that I volunteer for is wheelchair bound -- has been for 25 years or so -- and he still dives.

You can do it!

But they do it in one or two days which i think is just plain stupid. My course took almost 2 months and we covered a lot. And I felt very comfortable when was finished.

Head 03-03-2005 06:26 PM

But I hear Muff diving is also a lot of fun!

Dude, this is not a certification course. It's an introductory dive course, which gives you temporary certification to dive with a licensed instructor up to (I believe it's) 35 feet, for 1 week. If you want to get certified to go out diving anytime you want, without an instuctor, then you take the certification course like you did and I did. This introductory course is the perfect opportunity for people to test it out to see if they even like diving, before spending 6 weeks and $300 or more for certification.

BradShaw 03-03-2005 06:41 PM

I heard all she does is muff dives.

....Nevermind.

I said it once...I'm sick of beating my head against the while with my conversations here.

Some read and comprehend...And some don't.

Scuba Diving is fine - just chose not to go below 15 - 20 feet and stay calm.
I teach scuba in the summers mostly for extra $$$ and I would have to advise against those resort courses. you need min 12 hours pool and 8 - 10 hours class -
people t resorts don't give a shit about you - they only want your loot bottom line
get Padi or ACUC cert - Padi is global - they're the most popular.

I'd say get certified in your hometown, and do your open water dive (like a final exam) in a warm climate like Cancun.
It's a fun sport and the best diving happens around 25 - 30 feet - get the best visibility and colours and it's fairly safe provided everyone is being relatively smart.

And nobody can bug you when u're under - no cell phone nuthing! better than drugs.

Spunky 03-03-2005 09:11 PM

You can do it...makes a Rob Sneider imitation

2HousePlague 03-03-2005 10:42 PM

Do it, RRREED.

It's like visiting another planet!

I'm a Scuba Master, with over 4,000 dives in my book, and, I tell ya, each time I dive, LESS of me returns.
