stop chargebacks?

I know there is no way to 100% stop them. How do you other webmasters deal with them or dont you? I usually have someone that signed up for an account, uses it for a few weeks (i offer 90 day accounts) and then calls their CC company and states they didnt buy it. Now I have full logs of the sign up with their email and everything. I also log each and every log in by each username.

The general statement I am told is there is nothing i can do since i do not have a signature.

thanks and btw, this site is on my 'many' checks a day list.. keep up the great work..

You can start by selling them a truly quality product/service

They best way to keep your CB's down is to use a gateway that has advanced fraud scrubbing services such as NetBilling, DHD Media, or Jettis. Withh all thegateways out there these three have dramatically lower CB's than anyone else.

We process many millions a month in adult transactions and I recommend these three all the time.

joey3001 03-03-2005 12:16 PM

I always wonder how many people would back down to a phone call.

"hi, we are checking on your chargeback. Did someone steal your card info?" Otherwise how can they say it is not them.

"did they close the card or report it stolen?"

"my kid did it" "Can we have his his/her name for the police report of credit card fraud"

This shit about i never did it. So prive I did with a signature. gets real old and they have to say it over and over for it to stick so you would think as an industry we could have answer for every objection.

stop offering 90 day memberships. i'm willing to bet those are the ones that get chargedback most often.

pornguy 03-03-2005 01:44 PM

the sad thing is that VISA allows them, even though you can prove that the charge came from their e-mail address, their ip etc. VISA has a rule, that if someone in the house uses it, then they have to pay. But this does not apply to porn.

Authorize.net no longer allows adult processing and besides that, theur fraud scrubbing is garbage. You should try Netbilling.

how much less then 1% ?
mine are around .2% so I dont mind...much ...
they have been as high as 2% about 5 years ago.

not much you can do about the dweebs, send them an email and they may pay up, I have had a few people send me checks after I sent them a nasty gram.

Yeah - keep the memberships down to 30 days max to help keep down chargebacks

Find a processor that offers Verified by Visa !

Temp1 11-25-2005 10:29 AM

Speaking of, can anyone recommend a reputable chargeback collections company?

Temp1 11-26-2005 11:13 AM

bump - any suggestions at all?

Validus 11-26-2005 11:35 AM

I would say that the product quality and good support are the biggest 2 elements.

To stop chargeback?s many companies do call-backs these days. This way you at least have a phone number on hand. Fraud screening systems are good? but depending on application limiting.

Muh, I could write a lot about fraud prevention :)

Yes, Pegasus does some great work. Check them out (http://www.pegasus-international.co.uk/).

If you use your own Merchant account through a gateway with a good negative data base you will have 100% control over your members. You will also have their full name address and CC# unlike CCbill or Epoch who keep some of that info private. With this information you can start action against people who try to defraud you by allowing a collection agency to contact them. It will probably end up costing you more than you get back but it may give you some satisfaction knowing these asswipes didn't get away with stealing from you ?

What is a "good" negativ list? :) How do you define a good negativ list?

tony286 11-26-2005 11:49 AM

we have a very very lo cb rate but when they have been in the site and they do it.it still pisses me off but its the cost doing business. What i dont understand why the processors dont have a cb database they all use . That way a scumbag cb's he will never be able to buy a site subscription again.they had no problem working all together on the $750
