It's all good to send tgp traffic to paysites, but what about ...

Making paysites that are as sticky and content-rich as tgp's?

I'm talking about having enough free content on a paysite that it retains the shit out of surfers tgp-style, but is teasing enough that it eventually sucks them into joining.

Paysites with free content that updates weekly/daily, and previews of the members section which are also updated weekly/daily, so that return visitors are happy to keep coming back, but are also constantly bombarded with "what they're missing out on".

I've seen a few sites like this out there, and created a few myself, but I'm wondering why this isn't a more widely-used format? Maybe because affiliates aren't interested in sending a surfer to a site which he will bookmark but possibly not join for months and months? Permanent ref cookies would of course be a must.

Thoughts?

will cost a shitload of content if you go with exclusive stuff :2 cents:

You would need to include the aff. refcode in the bookmark link for this to fly... too many cookie monsters out there now days.

That's a good idea, and actually wouldn't be hard to do. :thumbsup

I don't think he'll use exclusive content.

Just by loads and loads of non-exclusive content. The key to this type of site is quantity, not quality.

Hmm, doesn't this hark back to '97, when most paysites had "free samples". It was a good idea then, and a good idea now!

Yep, seems that this was done more often back in the day but I think it's still a good concept.

The way I usually set it up is similar to a tgp in that it's a bunch of thumbs on the mainpage, but instead of linking to a gallery they simply link to one bigger pic in the "free section", and then I also do a bunch of "premium thumbs" which either don't link to anything, or which link to the join page ... i.e., in order to see that full size pic/movie/etc you must be a member. But the free content and the teaser thumbs update daily/weekly tgp style.

Edit: I think this is also good for retention, because the user really does know exactly what they will get in the members section, and as soon as they signup they see those same "premium thumbs" or whatever that they knew they were paying to access ...

Yep I do this (sort of) by constantly adding to the video tour clips and having a shitload (20-30) free videos on the tour too. I know the conventional wisom is just give enough to tease, but now that bandwidth is virtually free, why not.

I may loose a few sales by over saturating the tour but I am convinced if you have great content a lot of free peaks is a net +. You only loose the surfers who never buy anything anyway.
