Green Day is cool although their sound is closer to power pop than punk. The punk part is their attitude.

Did you see them play at Woodstock in '94? A total friggin' mudfight broke out and the bass player got his front teeth knocked out (the mud fight was pretty hilarious, although it's not cool that Dirnt got hurt).

At a BFD (Big F*ckin' Deal) concert held years ago at the Shoreline Amphitheater here in the Bay Area, Billy Joe Armstrong whipped out his pee pee on stage and played with it (a la Jim Morrison). I understand that was not the only time he has done a skin flute solo mid-concert.

The new album is great...although, I remember watching them do the 9-minute "Jesus of Suburbia" live on Carson Daly's Late Show, and thinking damn, if I close my eyes some parts of it sound like Cheap Trick.

Oh well...it's only rock and roll.
