You need to use something to help you deal with the craves:

Nicocure, Nicoderm. Nicorete, whatever, otherwise it's going to be tough.

LasseKongos 03-01-2005 06:07 PM

I have Nicorete gum

Harmon 03-01-2005 06:08 PM

Go cold turkey and wait 4 days. By then, all of the nicotine will be out of your blood stream. Stay away from the gum, it is only keeping you addicted :2 cents:

nico-t 03-01-2005 06:09 PM

i put my limit to 10 a day, i smoke like 5 to 10 a day. i aint addicted i could easily not smoke, but theres no need to stop cuz the little i smoke aint harmful.... weekends are much more tho but thats when i go out

LasseKongos 03-01-2005 06:13 PM

3 days and the time goes sooo slow... I told my friends that they can have my car and drive me, so I cant drive and buy cigg, the pain in my jaws from all gums...

PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNN

I used the gum too, avoid cofee, cool drinks, alcohol, I remember I didn't go out for a month after I quit.
Good luck ;)

The best way to break a bad habit is to start a new - but good - one.

So, whatever your smoking routine was you need to replace that with another activity if possible. Smoking, drinking, eating, slapping the chicken are not the most advisable but most anything else will do.

Lastly, if you are on a smoking routine - as in, it starts back up, you need to stop the routine ... always have a smoke with your coffee? Start drinking w/o the smoke - even if a few minutes before or after. You just have to break that routine so that as soon as you smell coffee you're reaching for your lighter!

100% TRUE!!!

I smoked 1/2 to a full pack a day. I ended up using the patch (step 2) for 4 days and then quit using it all together. For me it wasnt something to chew on or stick in my mouth that bugged me, it was not having something between my fingers that drove me nuts. I carried around a chopped up pencil around for a week or so. This past Feb 7th was my one year.

Spunky 03-01-2005 07:04 PM

You'll be back..they always do...cough cough :pimp

i went from a pack to half a pack. need to quit, destroying my gums.

Abyss_Vee 03-01-2005 07:38 PM

just dont think about it. chew gum

fl_prn_str 03-01-2005 07:41 PM

dont do it man....nobody likes quitters.......

dasexi1 03-01-2005 07:43 PM

i'm going on my second month, i quit cold turkey, no gums, no patches i found that drinking a lot of water helped. keep low calorie snacks around too so you won't get fat. unless you just don't have a prob with weight ever, in that case eat like crazy...oh and the first few days I slept as much as I possibly could so i didn't have to deal with the withdrawls... and remember it takes at least 3 weeks to make something a habit, so give yourself at least that amount of time to make new habits. I had a real hard time working those first couple weeks cause I smoked the most sitting here at my desk working, it drove me crazy not having a cig when i got frustrated with something i was working on.
good luck!! hang in there!! don't give up blah blah blah...

Danny Dukes 03-01-2005 07:45 PM

Heroin will get your mind off of smoking, thats what I did;) J/K LOL

It's a hard road, try gum, and you will gain weight.

GirlNinja 03-01-2005 07:46 PM

dont' replace it with candy and junk, replace it with something productive.. reading ? eating fruit ? walking the dog ?

or just smoke pot instead :pimp

RyanL 03-01-2005 07:48 PM

Congrats on quiting...

As everyone here has already said, replace your bad habit with something good.
Some sort of exercise or healthy snack is probably your best bet :)

Good Luck

i quit in 2000 for a month, smoke pot instead. didn't work out so well, started smoking again, stuck with the the pot. now i get to quit both.

The Other Sweetie 03-01-2005 07:56 PM

I quit Jan 5th. I was too much of a pussy to go cold turkey so I went with Nicoderm CQ patches. Those things worked wonders! The hardest part was the routines (after dinner, first thing in the morning, etc).

To break those routines the first few days, sucking on lollipops helped. When I'd get the urge to have something in my hand, I'd grab a straw and hold it like a cigarette. The first 3 days were the worst. It only gets better from there.

Martin 03-01-2005 08:01 PM

smoke weed!

KHO 03-01-2005 09:33 PM

Try sunflower seeds... worked for me. Quit cold turkey, ate sunflower seeds for the first couple of weeks when i had a craving. Haven't smoked in 3 years. Good luck.

jonpotz 03-01-2005 09:40 PM

quit smoking...start exercising daily...try running everyday or walking everyday. it helped me because I felt I performed better when I could breath easy.

cambaby 03-01-2005 09:41 PM

Stop drinking caffeine, caffeine dehydrates you which increase the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Good luck you can do it.

cambaby 03-01-2005 09:43 PM

Oh for inspiration I kept track of how much money I saved per day and made a desktop wallpaper of the next days amount of money, was quite inspiring actually.

Spunky 03-01-2005 09:50 PM

I also tried and quit twice for about a year each time.I not only gained weight .I couldn't go to clubs cause I always liked smoking when I was drinking

1 Nicorete gum cost more then 1 cigg

Rex 03-02-2005 03:50 AM

I smoked for close to ten years and quit cold turkey one day after I couldn't even walk up 4 flights of stairs. The first two weeks were rough but breaking the habit of "mindlessly grabbing a cigarette" was even harder to break and took about a year.

Just don't give up -- that's the only thing.

LasseKongos 03-02-2005 04:03 AM

What do you mean with cold turkey? Just stop?

sonofsam 03-02-2005 04:05 AM

quitting cold turkey doesn't usually work....

what i find helps is

carry a smoke with you...... wait till u cant stand it anymore... smoke half of it... put the rest out... after a while... wait till u cant anymore... smoke a drag.. then put it out...and keep bringing down and down till u quit...

WarChild 03-02-2005 04:06 AM

Sugar Free (Diabetic) lollipops. They're the round flat ones, and can be found in bulk. The motion of hand to mouth is similar enough to smoking to be effective. They won't turn you in to a candy eating cheeseburger creature either.

zentz 03-02-2005 04:08 AM

replace cigarettes with weed

just smoke a bowl of dank everytime you wanna smoke a cig, or just roll up a quarter pound of mids into j's

Cypherpunk 03-02-2005 06:05 AM

There are two things to break, the addiction and the habit.
I used the patch to deal with beating the cravings and gradualy lowering the nicotine in my body. This leaves you free to not stress and work on geting rid of that 'hand to mouth' habbit. Find something to do with your hands.

Avoid the 'triggers' that make you want to smoke.

Take some walks daily and enjoy the feeling of the air in your lungs, you will quickly notice the diference in lung capacity, you can soon walk further & faster without becoming short of breath.

Find a reason to HATE smoking, this isnt hard so just pick one and bring it up everytime you feel like a smoke.

Find yourself a class that does, yoga, chi gung, meditation or whatever takes your fancy. You will learn some valuable relaxation and breathing techniques to deal with any stress.

This all worked for me and its been 18months.
Its worth it - keep it up

BastarD 03-02-2005 06:10 AM

Drink lots of soda to prevent eating too much and smoking.. that helps..

spideriux 03-02-2005 06:53 AM

No, I'm still smoking everyday :D
