tell me why i shouldnt buy a $1000 espresso machine

been lurking espresso sites forever and i want a new one, pls tell me i dont need it, every damn 2-3 yrs these machines explode due to calcium, theyre messy, expensive and i buy espresso outside anyhow... but i love them lol

anyhow else here into that?

Phoenix 02-28-2005 08:04 AM

i like good coffee, havent gotten into espresso yet

Wizzo 02-28-2005 08:06 AM

Check out the Phillips Senseo Single Coffee Maker, its like $75 and though its not expresso maker, its does make a nice very strong cup... :pimp

groark 02-28-2005 08:06 AM

If you have some money to spend why not

Babagirls 02-28-2005 08:07 AM

dont get one cuz it costs $1,000 lol
if you wanna blow that much money on something, go buy something better than an over-rated coffee maker :upsidedow

brilsmurf 02-28-2005 08:08 AM

Nylz 02-28-2005 08:09 AM

tell me why i shouldnt buy a $1000 espresso machine..

coz you can get a cheaper one?

Sosa 02-28-2005 08:11 AM

cuz you don't fucking need one!

maddox 02-28-2005 08:17 AM

I have Saeco S-Class Incanto Deluxe, it was pretty expensive (over 1000E) but I love it and my gf does a great coffee :)

Bigfuck 02-28-2005 08:21 AM

We have been looking at getting one for the office
they seems to make good coffe:)

DutchTeenCash 02-28-2005 08:27 AM

ok delonghi is a diff kinda class, saeco is a topnotch brand, unfortunately the quality isnt, theyre around 500 (starting) and i know at least 5 ppl having them and having trouble, its all plastic, aluminum brewery group, so with the calcium here thats 2 yrs and gone

im lookin at a jura now, theyre quality and used in pubs as well, ive had a manual machine, 3 to be honest, but im tired of the crap they produce, 1 min coffee making and 15 mins cleaning

DutchTeenCash 02-28-2005 08:30 AM

id love to get an ECM like this, they look great, but they need maintainence every damn day, lube the seals, clean everything etc etc, plus they start at $2k, without a grinder, you need one too...

that senseo thing is one big marketing invention, the machine itself is crap its just a coffee maker for lazy ppl, so they invented the pads (prolly existed)

they even sued some companies who remade the pads, they sell them everywhere now, the coffee is crap, they give fancy names to it, but coffee is coffee if you put it in a coffee maker. They even have an alu version for 200 bucks, complete waiste of money.

Ppl think they can spend 200 and get a decent espresso machine, but they cant. Anything that doesnt produce 15 bar pressure and uses real arabica coffee doesnt make espresso, thats bout it.

Hey some ppl spend 1000 on shoes i spend it on coffee :)

fuzebox 02-28-2005 11:54 AM

Go for it, nothing compares to a good cup of coffee :thumbsup

For that price the store you buy it from should provide servicing and cleaning if you bring it back in... Ours does.

joshuawk 02-28-2005 11:57 AM

I bought a $900 SAECO italia, it was pretty awesome at first but now
the coffee always tastes gross.

i tried to clean it for like 3 hours too..

i dont know if i have the wrong beans or what but ive wound up
just going back to starbucks for espresso

i dont know if i believe that it is going to explode in 3 years and if
so wouldnt they have to replace it?

Kendra 02-28-2005 11:59 AM

OMG that is to much money for a coffee machine!!!!

I can think of a million other things to spend it on.

What if you find a nice antique one to just show off or something since you really wouldnt be using it any. LOL you said you mostly buy the coffee outside the house anyways.

Twe Russ 02-28-2005 11:59 AM

go2starbucks and save your money.

modF 02-28-2005 12:12 PM

One, you won't use it as much as you think you will. Two, you won't be able to make it "as good". Three, you will not save enough money making it yourself to justify not buying it down the street to make back you 1k.

Mike Semen 02-28-2005 12:14 PM

Buy the fucker. You will never sleep properly again. HAd one in an old office; a german job that grinds the beans etc etc shit hot espresso at the touch of a button. I was caffeine wired for that whole six months.

chupachups 02-28-2005 12:17 PM

Buy a La Pavoni, very "manual" but makes excellent coffee! :thumbsup

like i said they are cool but quality sucks, i know some ppl who got them, the seals are shitty quality, thats what happened prolly with yours too. The calcium gets it and if you dont lube them, they start leaking, normally outside the brewery part, so the water comes out.

Theres no such thing as wrong beans btw, what CAN happen is when you move the grinding scale from fine to finer, a bean gets stuck and damages the grinder, but as long as you buy arabica (the greasy feeling beans) you should be ok, dont go for regular beans, they wont get the crema (the yellow thick creme on top of the coffee).

Take it to the shop, if its within warrenty theyll replace the seals, if not its like $150-200

i love that thing, id just buy it for the looks, but it takes ages to master to get a ok kinda espresso and its a damn dangerous machine. The 15 bar pressure is only controlled by a screw on cap on the top, i know a guy whos kid opened that and didnt unpressure it first thus got 15 bar steam in his face and got burned terribly... but i agree its the most beautiful machine made

Platinumpimp 02-28-2005 12:25 PM

Go Krups, they are truely the best. :2 cents:

Quickdraw 02-28-2005 12:29 PM

Run some white vinegar through your machine every coupla weeks. That should help the calcium deposits.

(Just in case you don't do that already :))

err krups is the biggest crap you can buy, all aluminium and very low quality housing, brewery group etc etc, i know because i had 2, the milk froth part is rubber, a heaven for bacteria... no thanks :2 cents:

sickkittens 02-28-2005 12:31 PM

Am I the only one who dislikes coffee, espresso, ect.?

hmm i know they say that here too, thing is most machines have a manual that states thatll ruin the machine and loses warrenty, but youre right its a good and cheap way... i hate to buy those 5 bucks a piece tablets

Why not buy a good DeLonghi (sp?) at a quarter of the cost and put the money saved toward a good water purification system (around $1k-$1.5k). That way your new expresso machine along with washing machine, dishwasher hot water tank will last oh, about 5 times longer :winkwink:

wish thats possible, thats not allowed here (sounds dumb i know), i know these systems, even sold them for boats, but like i said cant do that and since weve got seawater here calcium is a big problem...

Screaming 02-28-2005 12:46 PM

no but you have fun with that

swedguy 02-28-2005 12:49 PM

I've been looking into it quite a lot lately since I will buy one soon. I will get an Incanto from Saeco since it has the new 12gr brew group, the only ones that has it... what I've seen at least. The other full auto espresso machines has only a 9gr brew group.

Saeco Incanto Sirius

Saeco Incanto Rondo SBS

please please please do yourself a fav and read the comments on these machines, they look great but the brew groups are crap, most ppl say they use the same as jura does but thats not true, both gaggia and saeco look great, but read what the other guy said, 2 yrs and broken, they cost a lot and arent worth it...
