I think I am gonna go to the doctor today

I have noticed pains in my right wrist...Like when I am typing and stuff...

Not sure if its something serious or if its from the years of hardcore typing and shit...

I am hoping its nothing serious :(

It doesn't do it with my left wrist but god forbid something is wrong with my fucken right hand...Jerking off is just not the same with lefty...

Jon

RedShoe 02-28-2005 04:28 AM

My friend had the same symptoms and they ended up cutting his whole right arm off just below the elbow.

Good luck. :)

KorayIsSexy 02-28-2005 04:28 AM

Could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

repetative use syndrome. Step away from the computer for a day and it will heal up.

Sounds like Carpal Tunnel. I have the same problem, but in both hands / wrists. A word of advice, surgery does jack shit for it, other than relieve the pain for a while, then it comes back, and you have to go back to the Doc.

Go to Sharper Image and buy yourself 2 magnetic bracelets. Wear these 24/7! Also, buy 2 wrist splints at Rite Aid, wear these when it's really bad, and sometimes when you sleep.

Try and change your sleeping position. I found that when I sleep on my side, I dig my fist into the mattress, and when I wake up, my hands hurt (This is related to a high amount of caffeine intake.). Turn your pillow verticle, and lay your hands flat against the mattress, and sleep on them, to keep them flat.

Try to reduce your caffeine intake. If you drink alot of Mt. Dew. Try and switch to coffee. This helped me ALOT.

You need to be very careful about "bending" your wrists. Try and keep them straightened out at all times. The more you bend your wrist, the longer the healing process will take.

Carpal tunnel is caused by certain canals in your wrist becoming weak and collapsing, restricting blood-flow to the hands. Maintaining straight wrists helps to build up the canal again, to allow for better circulation.

I have a few other tips if these don't work. Just wanted to give you a few tips that I do, that have all helped in my own circumstances.

I will try some of these...

I am now just waiting for someone to make a smart ass comment to the "You need to be very careful about "bending" your wrists. Try and keep them straightened out at all times. The more you bend your wrist, the longer the healing process will take." part...

Bring it on bitches

The reason I mention getting 2 bracelets and 2 splints, is that if you have it in 1 hand / wrist, most likely the other will follow shortly behind. Best to treat both at the same time, to avoid any further damage.

LOL... That wasn't directed at you in a humerous way, but I can see where you might get some flack for that. LOL... Sorry, but these methods really help. I have to do all of these things or my hands cease to function properly, and I can't type at all, during those times. I've held these practices for about 7 months now, and haven't had any pain for about 6 months of that time.

I reccomend those wrist splints highly. They look retarted, but they work.

I have a pair for whenever I have to write program that involves hours of straight typing.

You should find something like this. They make them in "Right Hand" and "Left Hand" models. Buy one of each.

You should try and find something like these magnetic bracelets.

There is NO scientific proof that magnetic bracelts work.

In one study performed at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston showed that in 19 subjects, 9 of which wore a magnetic device, and 9 which didn't... 60% reported improvement in their trouble areas.

60% improvement, and only 50% wore the damn thing.

"There is no scientific basis to conclude that small, static magnets can relieve pain or influence the course of any disease. In fact, many of today's products produce no significant magnetic field at or beneath the skin's surface."
http://www.quackwatch.org/04Consumer...QA/magnet.html

"However, magnet therapy, laser acupuncture and chiropractic care haven't provided the same benefits in controlled trials."
http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm...C0&dsection=11

Don't buy into magentic therapy bullshit man, Don't waste your time or money on unproven trinkets or voodoo bullshit. Go see a REAL doctor and get REAL treatment.

one more for you...

"No deepening evidence. In spite of hundreds of years of experience and investigation, the "state of the art" in magnetic therapy appears to have increased little since the days of Franz Mesmer. (mid-18th century)"

yup RSI as we call it for sure... get a decent gelwristpad mousepad and a good mouse and dont sit down behind the pc for 10 hrs in a row... RSI sucks and takes ages to go away

slapass 02-28-2005 07:07 AM

This sounds weird but has worked for me and other people. Eat raw vegtables and fruit for 2 days. it has something to do with reducing the water in the joints but in just 2 days it goes away.

Jon2 02-28-2005 07:39 AM

Thanks for everyones input...

Yeah I haven't been prolly using the pc in the best way...I switch position 5000 times a day...Everywhere from the bed to the couch to the floor...lol

Jon

Spunky 02-28-2005 07:40 AM

Amputation is the only solution :thumbsup

brilsmurf 02-28-2005 07:43 AM

its called RSI repititive strain injury:

you jerk off 2 much.. or its from the mouse :-)

Jon2 02-28-2005 07:45 AM

I think its from this fucken desk where my backup pc is...The mouse is on top of the desk and the keyboard is in the lil keyboard holder...So my hand bends when I use the mouse...Its above the keyboard normal level...

If that fucken makes sense...

I have the same for years now.. here in holland it is called RSI (repetive strain injury)
A few years ago it was so bad my arm was swolen! i have it in my wrists, arms and neck.. really painfull at times..
The doctor says it will never heal, but when you take many brakes during working hours it really helps bare the pain.

RSI really fucks up my abbility to work for long hours now.. and in this bizz you can't help work 24/7 sometimes...

Be sure to take enough rest and do other stuff than the usual mousing :-)

Jon2 02-28-2005 08:38 AM

Well its pain...But its tolerable pain...Kinda like it is telling me...Hi I am your wrist...Just wanted to give you a lil pain to say I am here...

lol

Jon

spideriux 02-28-2005 10:58 AM

ArkansasDave 02-28-2005 11:05 AM

I switched to an ergonomic key keyboard and mine went away after about 2+ months.
Good luck at the Doc's!

I use three different types of mice, http://www.evoluent.com a trackball and a normal mouse, the variety seems to help keep me feeling good.
