How common is insomnia among webmasters?

I've always worked better late at night. But lately I've been up until 5 am working. No drugs, not tired, just cruising at my desk. Wake up daily around 9-930 am.

Anyone else here an extreme night owl?

Sleeping disorder have I?

KorayIsSexy 02-28-2005 04:11 AM

I have clinical Insomnia. Have since I was about 9. Sometimes it can get to be very very painful, but most of the time its a good thing.

MyNameIsEmily 02-28-2005 04:12 AM

Very... Very common.

Rui 02-28-2005 04:31 AM

Yep its very common, why do you think GFY has so many lurkers (even considering the different timefuses).. eh

quiet 02-28-2005 04:32 AM

Relish XXX 02-28-2005 04:34 AM

It is 11.30 in the UK (midday) I have been working since midday yesterday. I am not tired anymore and will probably continue untill 6 then go home, eat, then crash out.

My doctor gave me a script for Ambien.

I can take it and still not sleep. Sucks sometimes.

Johny Traffic 02-28-2005 04:35 AM

I force myself to go to bed... Its to easy to start chatting on ICQ and doing stuff, then before you know it, its 3 oclock in the morning

V_RocKs 02-28-2005 04:37 AM

Why ask... just count the threads since you been here.

dasexi1 02-28-2005 04:39 AM

I've been a night owl since I was a lil kid, but now it's really bad when I do finally get to sleep I can only seem to sleep for a couple hours at a time.
The upside is I work better at night, the downside is my neighbor snores REALLY loud

Silent_Thunder 02-28-2005 04:49 AM

I sleep well :) If possible 10-12hours. :D

ChefJeff 02-28-2005 07:16 PM

I do my best work at night.

Able to concentrate better. I don't get overwhelmed with feelings of tiredness.

Today my fiance tells me that ppl who sleep less than 5 hrs a night are more likely to be obese. I'm not thankfully, but I do get quite an appetite during the wee hours of the morning!

xlogger 02-28-2005 07:17 PM

rofl i can sleep any time anywhere, getting up is the hard part. I sleep like a rock. :1orglaugh

beemk 02-28-2005 07:17 PM

thaifan99 02-28-2005 07:21 PM

Nembrionic 02-28-2005 07:23 PM

"How common is insomnia among webmasters? "

depends on how many people you screwed over.
I hear it gets less and less the more you screw over :2 cents:

tungsten 02-28-2005 07:24 PM

dozey 02-28-2005 07:27 PM

It's common for anyone who doesn't have a set schedule to have insomnia. Lots of the rich and famous get it too. If you don't have to get up every morning at 6am and don't get much exercise, you will not sleep.

Force yourself into a routine and get away from the PC for a while and get some exercise. You will sleep, and if you don't, then see a doctor.

Spunky 02-28-2005 07:52 PM

I just drink more beer until I pass out :pimp

that is not always true for the true insomniac...like me

i can get a pattern going with sleep, midnight to 8am every day...but when I brain decides it is time for my insomnia, it will go no matter what...nothing can help it, I have downed 8-10 tylenol pm before out of frustration..ambien sucks ass, took 4 of those once...I have gone 6-10 days without sleep before, no drugs involved...and I feel tired, but the minute I set out to fall alseep I become wide awake...sometimes I have no tired feeling at all for days at a time

the worst is when my insomnia is set off by being woken up right as I am falling asleep, that happens very often...I will doze off, my wife will say something and wake me up, and I will be up for 3 days straight

fact is, if it is true insomnia, nothing can help...period

Jace 02-28-2005 07:58 PM

let me rephrase that....the one sure thing I have found that cures insomnia is alcohol...lots of alcohol, very fast....til you pass out

No doubt. that's why I said, if my suggestions don't help to see a doctor. True insomnia is a real medical problem and I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with that.

I was just referring to the people that think they have it because they sit in front of a pc until 5am :winkwink:

ah, right...very true

the computer is a drug, and like any drug you will lose sleep and feel the need to always use it....and you always want it, and feel wierd when it is not around

vegascurves 02-28-2005 08:13 PM

azguy 02-28-2005 08:14 PM
