My XBox broke on me about 9 months after I bought it from the first batch that was released. They wouldn't do anything about it then. Then maybe 6 months later they e-mailed me a notice saying they would fix it if I sent it in for free.

I'm pretty sure if you've had it for under a year they have to fix it because of some 1 yr lemon law for electronics. Sucks regardless. Otherwise you're paying $100 for them to send you a refurbished one.

          Easy solution:

          1. Buy another XBox with cash at (insert generic store name here).
          2. Wait a couple of days.
          3. Take the defective one back to the same store.

Before you jackasses say anything, no one is out any money. You bought the thing, and you want it fixed. Why wait to get it fixed? They should just give you another one when you bring back a defective one.

Funny thing is that my uncle told me to do the same thing but isnt there any serial numbers on it or anything?

I have the money to buy another one, but shit I was waiting until Xbox 2 comes out until I bought a new one.

I had an XBox I bought at a store (I won't tell you it was Wal Mart), and I took it home, hooked it up, put in a game, pressed the power button, and it booted up, then it gave me that message. I did just what my list told you to do.

They didn't ask for a serial. They gave me a new one. I took it home, and it works. It was the last component in my current console array and I was happy.

I should clarify. They didn't scan the serial, only the generic UPC. As you know, UPCs don't contain serial information.

If you're worried about the serial...u can slightly dampen a towel and lift the new serial off of the new xbox with a knife. when its off, rip the old serial off the old xbox(wont get traced back 2 your receipt) and put on the new serial carefully on the old xbox. put it back in the plastic wrap, and if they try to scan the serial...it will go though, make sure its a female @ the wal-mart customer service desk. Most times they get fed up and just take it back if it doesn't work...lol, uhhh. I haven't done it, i just know...yea.

Is it the old PS2 or the new PS2?
