File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.

The error code is 4.

Anybody know why this happens?
New computer, p4-3.2Ghz, 1gig ram, 60gig HD, trying to install win2k pro and it wont even get into the setup.

I swapped ram (all were new), swapped hard drives, tweaked everything I could think of in bios, changed video cards. Been fucking with this all day, about to beat it with a hammer.

tungsten 02-26-2005 09:26 PM

According to Google it means a fucked up BIOS or RAM module. Did you beef up the RAM yourself? If so that might be it.

Try to disable ACPI in your BIOS or resetting your BIOS to default settings.

Oh I missed the part about what you'd done already.

Fry's wouldn't take my RAM back a while ago. I inserted it backwards and damaged it. :disgust

Fry's salespeole are mostly useless in my experience...If you are absolutely sure the RAM matches your PC, not just the salesman saying "yeah it should be fine" then concentrate on troubleshooting/resetting the BIOS

I guess it's not still under warranty otherwise you would have given up already and got a new one..

You need to disable ACPI detection during installation -- Press f7 right after the 'press f6 for scsi/raid' message.

There's a page about it in the microsoft knowledge-base. Try searching 'ntkrnlmp.exe' and you'll find it.
