Instead of Notepad... whats a good prog...

Notepad & Wordpad keep adding window symbols and shit to my scripts when i edit them = scripts no longer work.

I hate editing scripts online via SSH with my UNIX PICO editor. Too slow and hard to control.

What else can i use to edit scripts, without manipulating them?

After Shock Media 02-26-2005 07:12 PM

I just open them with my editor in Cuteftp.

JFPdude 02-26-2005 07:13 PM

http://editpadpro.com I been using it for years doesn't have the limitations of notepad either

Sly 02-26-2005 07:23 PM

I've been using TextPad for close to 7 years now.

I like homesite.. Color coding and tag completion.. Nice interface too.. :-)

viki 02-26-2005 07:26 PM

I use Editpad lite. Simple program with nice features (open as many pages you want in tabs, search and edit many files at the same time, etc.), and it's free. I don't know how much better Editpad Pro is, but the lite version does everything I want it to.

editpad = oldschool and good

maddox 02-26-2005 07:27 PM

editplus, no better text editor, it has an ftp support so you no longer need pico via SSH

stevo 02-26-2005 07:28 PM

Thanks for the responses! Most of these programs look pretty good :thumbsup

meta pad for me.

Ron Bennett 03-01-2005 01:15 AM

MS-Dos Edit ... most every Windows based PC already has it preinstalled - it's a tiny program that just works :thumbsup

Alternatively, for small edits/quick changes on the server side (linux, etc), use VI :upsidedow

swedguy 03-01-2005 03:06 AM

If you like Pico, then you will love vi.
That thing is a beast. It has every possible feature and formatting function you can ever think of.

jamesonxx 03-01-2005 03:09 AM

Metapad is cool. :thumbsup

just a punk 03-01-2005 03:23 AM

Use X-Pad Editor: http://www.fhgstore.com/wmtools.html

KRL 03-01-2005 03:31 AM

NoteTab Pro

http://www.notetab.com/ntp.php

It is by far the best text editor on the Net, bar none.

I have been through this same trail;

Honestly, I have yet to find a Text-Editor for Windows that suits my needs- and I have resorted to a combination of Dreamweaver's "HomeSite" mode + UltraEdit-32.

I try to avoid text editing on a PC if possible. BBEdit for Mac is my preferred choice for text-editing. :)

okdesign 03-01-2005 03:46 AM

I use homesite! :thumbsup

editpad and textpad are ultraoldschoolhackerrifics

MyNameIsEmily 03-01-2005 05:55 AM

While all these programs are "old-school" that's fine and all, but I will say editpad, metapad, textpad... basically anything that ends with "pad" sucks.

I love my SlickEdit

Tag libraries, built in FTP, customizable, code completion and assistance, etc, etc.
