FOR SALE: Fully developed revenue-generating site network

As we've grown, certain sites have received more love than others. While the "less loved" sites have certainly produced (and continue to produce) revenue on some level, they do not provide the type of income that makes it worthwhile for us to give them the TLC that they need to thrive and grow once more. I've provided three examples of the "shrinkage" from 2003 to Nov. 2004 (the last time we did a study on it). Keep in mind that these sites all still produce revenue, just nothing major to write home about:

Optimally, we'd be considering a single bid for all domains, and of course full historical data (revealing traffic sources -- NONE OF WHICH IS PPC OR PURCHASED TRAFFIC) and materials will be provided to interested parties.

My ICQ number is 124917382 for anyone who would like to contact me directly.

Sometimes, when I write, I don't make myself as clear as I wish. In my original post, I explained that -- I'll explain it more fully now. Essentially, that's the last time we did an in-depth traffic study. I don't know if the traffic has gone up or down, but I do know there remains some level of traffic on the domain. Probably, in fact, numbers very similar to November.

I'll respond to the ICQ's when I get home tonight, thank you for everyone's interest.

how much revenue is generated?
How much was generated the months before?
Traffic sources? Traffic quality?
See ICQ

Revenue was never more than $8k in a single month on a consistent basis, except one month it was about $15k because we changed sponsors/made it fresh, etc.

Regularly, those sites ran at about $6k per month or so consistently for about a year. Then, it fell in stages to $3k/mo, $2k/mo, and now it sits between $1k/mo and $1.5k/mo.

The traffic is certainly there, though. It comes from SE and link lists exclusively. The mix is probably link-list heavy, but it does sales from those sources, so it never bothered me.

The MAIN problem is a lack of attention to the "freshness" of the sites, as in not rotating the sponsors, etc. The secondary problem is with the falloff in traffic (these were google PR 4-7, now they're much lower) and the lack of any SEO or other proceedures.

Really, we just didn't give them enough love. They're aren't horrible sites, but they really haven't had attention in a very long time.

Someone needs to give them a little attention. :)

I'd also be interested in hearing from someone who might know of an appropriate valuation model to pursue.

A lot of people have suggested a multiple on monthly revenue, from 6-12 months or so. Others have suggested 4-6 moths of revenue, plus a kicker for high traffic that isn't being optimally sold or perhaps an ongoing interest in the sites for 6-12 months.

Any ideas or thoughts? They're appreciated, if so.

Whenever anyone asks how much revenue the site generates, tell them that it's none of their business. Newbies all try to value a site by how much it brings in but that isn't at all relevant. Let's say a site gets 150K uniques a day. Your ability to monetize that traffic may be better or worse than the potential buyers ability. Traffic amount, sources, scripts, design, etc are all that matter. Ultimately YOU set the price for the site, not the buyer. The price is the absolute lowest amount you would let the site go for...period. Formulas are bullshit.

In this case, it's MUCH worse. A lot of the sites have broken links or non-existent sponsors. I wish I could make the case more eloquently to the people who have ICQ'd me.

I will probably end up taking a multiple of the revenue it generates, or a lower number plus a rev-share, but I definitely want to hear other ideas.

Thanks for taking the time, you sound like someone who has a background in business, which is a rare kindred soul in this industry.

Sounds to me like it's more of a lack of time rather than a lack of ability. I feel your pain. Damn these short 24 hour days. ;)

Good luck with the sale.

Perhaps. A) I just took a new position with a major affiliate. B) We just moved into a huge new office. C) Just got a new vehicular "toy." D) I'm taking more vacations than actually working.

I just want someone to take over for this small segment of our network, so the rest of it "matches" better. Maybe it's an OCD thing. :1orglaugh

So you're looking for someone to run the sites, or someone to buy the sites?

Buy. I want them off of the network. They don't "match" the newer sites.

edgeprod 02-26-2005 12:46 PM

bump for new buyers before I make a decision

edgeprod 02-26-2005 09:13 PM

one (probably) last bump for the economy (mine)

edgeprod 03-18-2005 08:37 AM

Still for sale -- about to break it into pieces.

Any other offers?

shuki 03-18-2005 10:14 AM

Send me an e-mail or icq. I am interested in buying them

So, you are only selling part of the network... can you say what percentage of the network you are selling? That could have a pretty big impact on traffic.

Since none of the sites I'm selling interlink with any of the others sites in the network, it will likely have zero impact on traffic.

Oh -- hell no! The guy who bought them is an awesome dude. Paid quickly, stayed cool afterwards, and we'll probably do more business.

I was about to post that I had a chunk for 30+ more for sale, but someone ICQ'd be and bought them, so I edited, lol.
