Adult Blogs - What are the biggest & best porn blogs?

I have decided to take the plunge and start one of my own. I have been looking around for a couple of days at other porn blogs and most of them suck shit. They are all just about like the askjolene porn "blogs" which really amount to no more than wordy TGPs. Surely there are some really good porn blogs out there. If you know of any, please list them.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Good stuff there. That's a REAL blog. I'll bet that site gets mad niche traffic and lots of love from Google.

People kind of forget that the text is what gets you in the SE :winkwink: let them make some "tgp" blogs and fail while you make some real blogs :thumbsup

Biggest and best is surely fleshbot.com -- It has a full-time paid editor, and Jonno has style. AVN Adult Ads reports it gets about 200,000 page views per day (Alexa rank 3,910).

http://www.badgirlsblog.com/ is the only bigger one I know, but it surely does suck, and its high traffic (700,000 pv per AVN) looks to be mostly blind-linked TGP traffic.

Erosblog.com was one of the first sex/porn blogs but is much smaller (Alexa rank 66,434).

AVN Adult Ads reports 9000+ daily pageviews for my spankingblog.com; my own stats are showing about 11k pageviews on about 7k unique daily visitors. It's virtually all search engine and bookmark traffic, yum.

There are a fair number of fairly high-traffic porn blogs that don't do much text, and a few of 'em don't suck too bad. Examples: http://babes.coolios.net http://www.kimochi-ii.com http://www.yourdirtymind.com/

Hope that helps.

Forkbeard 02-25-2005 01:07 AM

Whee! While I was posting that you said some nice things about my spanking blog. Thanks.

You're right about Google; about fourteen months of daily text posting put me in the #1 slot for keyword "spanking" -- pushing spanking.com down to #2. And it's lucrative traffic.

Armed & Hammered, you may not remember, but back in 2002 you were the very first person here to respond to my very first newbie question, back when I was still trying to submit galleries on freehosts (ugh). Thanks!

About seven months later I was reading blogs and thinking "how come there aren't any sex blogs?" About the only one that existed then and is still around is dazereader.com. I just wish I had moved faster and harder while the idea was nearly unique.

Heh, I hope I was nice to you. ;) I'm sure you're making more money blogging than you ever would with galleries. Congrats on a great site.

I have been browsing adult blogs for a while now and there really seems to be a lack of quality content out there. I registered smutblogger.com the other day and intend to develop it over the next few weeks. The whole TGP/MGP game has become boring so it's time to move on. My other sites can pretty much run on autopilot so it's time to do something new. I hope I can make my site turn out half as nice as yours. How do you stay motivated? I don't know if I can manage to update every single day.

They don't seem to be pushing that much traffic.....most of them get like 600 visitors a day if I check the stats at that page http://blog.askjolene.com/mostpopular.php

You were, actually. If I recall, you made like a gruff uncle and advised me to get my own hosting. Of course like every rank newbie I was not quite ready to take that advice, lol.

No shit. In fact, I'm making more than I ever did with anything else, including the mainstream professional job of the type that required me to wear a suit and be in the office for ten hours a day six days a week. Not that blogging is all I do; like most folks I have sundry small tgps, toplists, directories, and oodles of one-page sites designed to suck in traffic and generate pagerank.

Quote:

Congrats on a great site.
Thanks! I'm delighted with how it's turned out.

You can miss a day, or even a week. You just can't make a habit of missing them. As for motivation, it's pretty easy. Spending a couple hours in my computer chair is something I would do every day anyway -- I even did it when I was working in my full-time-plus mainstream profession. Having a wallet with benjamins in it (for the first time in my life, and in sharp contrast to the old familiar melting smoking credit cards) finishes up the job of motivation.

On days when I'm ambitious, I do text posts. (Either write my own, or do the work of finding something worth quoting.) On days I'm not ambitious, I do an image post -- total elapsed time requirement approximately four minutes.

I started an erotic stories blog a couple of weeks ago. Traffic is building up nicely, espcially bookmarkers. It's at http://www.eroticstoriesblog.com if anyone wants to trade links :)

I'm sold on the whole blog idea and am about to start some more.

Darrell - maybe I missed something but I couldn't see a link on your blog for other webmasters.

However, if you want to trade links with about 50 blogs in one hit then give me a yell on 211 172 496

It doesn't look like you have trackbacks enabled. . . . why not? That is the best feature of Wordpress. Use it. :2 cents:

We bought like 150,000 pics from Fantasy Content, and they had some "For Women" content in there. goodgirl spotted it and said it would be a nice touch.

LOL, no. It's a cheesy and slightly unstable freeware client-side blog/cms system written by some college kid in Sri Lanka. I use it because it's free, it keeps my data under my control on my own hard drive, and because I've *been* using it and it will be a pain to upgrade. But it lacks far too many essential blogging features for any sane person to start using it now. I'll upgrade to wordpress or moveable type, probably, when I get around to it.

Folks, pay attention, and look at Darrell's blog. The holy grail of adult blogging (and the reason you ought to be wanting to get in on the act) is getting links and traffic from real, text-oriented noncommercial bloggers. That's traffic from outside the porn world, and though it's smarter less spendy trafic than I'd like, it's at least not exhausted from seeing a barrage of xxx advertising.

Darrell's blog comes closer than any of the other GFY efforts I've seen to being capable of getting those "non-porn blogger" links.

It's texty, the advertising is discrete, and the blogroll looks plausible.

Now, having said that, Darrell may be wondering "Forkbeard, I linked to your blog, why no return link?" Fair question.

Answer: there's still no human voice to "Justine". That's a writing issue, and I'm not enough of a writer or editor to know how to fix it. But the blog still reads more like an issue of Penthouse Forum than anything human and natural.

No slam, just one man's reaction. Your mileage may vary. And folks should pay attention, because Darrell is going at this in something very close to the right way.

Hi Forkbeard

I was wondering for us newbies that are barely starting our blogs, what are essential areas to focus on and how can one go about formulating a plan to generate traffic.

Baddog, whatever Kingpins tells you, you're right. Kingpins talks up the "huge amounts of traffic" the askjolene blogs get, while hoping you won't notice that the traffic all goes to his domain. When you get to work building more traffic, you're working for him. Woohoo!

My thoughts on blogging services, from my adult blogging tips article:
Quote:

DON'T: Don't use a "blogging service" -- you don't need it, and if your blog is on someone else's domain, you don't really own it. What if they go bankrupt and close their doors? Where is your blog then? Much better to have it on your domain, which you can move to a new host in a few hours if trouble strikes. Or what if your blogging service starts running ugly ads beside your blog posts? Sure, they don't do that now -- but who knows what they'll do after an IPO, two mergers, and a corporate acquisition?

I hate to seem self-promoting, but most of what I know about this I wrote into my adult blogging tips article. However, I did write that for an audience of bloggers who aren't really focused on making money in adult, even if they like the idea.

There's only one long-term plan, and that's write every day. You need text for the search engines, and it's got to have a consistent human voice to turn search engine visitors into bookmarked daily visitors, and to get blog links. On my successsful blogs the SE and bookmark traffic is the biggest component. Links from non-commercial bloggers is the second-biggest.

Short term, you'll go mad from the waiting. So don't limit yourself. Link exchanges, purchased links and traffic, toplists, directory sites, trades with TGPs (hard link at your end, scripted return from them, and the smart ones will love you for the quality of your traffic), picture posts, linkdumps -- use everything you know about traffic and apply it to your blog. Why not? The only tricky part is finding ways to do all that while keeping your site clean enough to attract blog links. That's *very* tricky. It's an art. Good luck.

Hi Forkbeard. Thanks for taking the time to look at my blog. Justine really does write the text and stories for the blog and we were trying to make it kinky with sex stuff she has done that day etc.. I guess that's why it reads like a Penthouse Forum.

Do you think it would be better if she writes about films she likes or has seen, or her views on world politics, or books she has read etc.? We did think about doing that, but thought kinky would be better. But we are happy to change direction with the chat if it would make the blog more succesful in the long run.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Just curious if it would be ok to use a PHP gateway like PHPNuke or PostNuke as a Blog? Or should I be using dedicated blogware?

effer 02-25-2005 12:10 PM

Cool thread! I recently started a sex (well mostly non nude) blog to test the waters. So far SE traffic has been surprisingly good. It doesnt hurt that many in the blogging world are very link friendly, and many blogs carry an unusually high pagerank for their relatively low traffic stats (if Alexa is to be trusted..). Link up if you'd like, my blog is only a week old but doing great: http://www.rapidteens.com

You could use that, but i would say its betters to use blog software since it can be setup to ping blog services for you automatic and some other features you might find important.

Oh ya, thought I should post this link, it is a GOLD MINE if you are starting up a blog. It is an updated listing of many RSS feed and blog directory submission pages. I hit almost everyone on the list 2 days ago. Got some nice PR5 backlinks out of it already.

How would I set up a rss feed for my blog?

I'm a newbie to blogging :(

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Forkbeard - your comments about 'owning' your own blog were particularly helpful.

At the moment my blog uses a free script that's available on another board. If anyone wants to know where they can get it just hit me up on ICQ (the number is further up in another post in this thread)

Marie, my partner, uses Pivot for her blogs and finds that has some very useful features too. I have been thinking of changing over to a Pivot based blog but the script I use is almost idiot proof - a definite requirement for someone as script challenged as me. :upsidedow

Guys you can submit your blogs to one of my link lists where I have a special page just for blogs - Cheeky Links
