Do you have 3G phones in USA?

Do you?
If yes, it's a new market.

Don't know Donners.. but do know the cell phone system in the US is backwards as fuck and incompatible with almost everything. Last I looked they were still stuffing up towers to provide a signal, - but heard they are catching up.

Of course we do and have had them for some time now.

Young 02-27-2005 12:26 PM

We have EV-DO on the CDMA networks...and we have EDGE on the GSM networks. Similar to 3G. They both have bursts of up to 700kb/s .

Steen2 02-27-2005 12:28 PM

We don't have enough money to invest in the cell phones compared to the British/EU :(

lol

American's aren't going to like the sounds of that though.

yellowmenace 02-27-2005 12:29 PM

probably not.

Actually it has alot more to do with our tighter restrictions over air waves. It takes years to obtain licenses on the higher frequencies which are needed for faster networks. Its not about money....its about the tight ass FCC.

KRL 02-27-2005 12:38 PM

Yes, Verizon just launched their 3G service. Its amazing. You can watch crystal clear video streams on your cell phone. Right now they don't have much content besides news broadcasts and the like. Pretty soon they are releasing a satellite version that will get you any channel you see on DirecTV on your phone. You can also do phone to phone video conferencing in real time stream.

colpanic 02-27-2005 12:45 PM

Yeah, what KRL said.

Verizon is just starting to roll them out. Unfortunately, they are totally locked down so you can't just stream random video to them yet.

The GSM operators (Cingular, T-Mobile etc) are *way* behind and won't be able to do true 3g for a year or two. Sprint is on it's way.. I think their network can do the speed, but they just haven't quite gotten it together yet.

Btw... billing has nothing to do with 3g.

Nothing beats a 3G bluetooth conection to you laptop in the car at broadband speeds. Its the future.

Young 02-27-2005 01:05 PM

Verizon has just rolled theres out but Sprint has had their EVO up for awhile. and Cingular and AT&T's Edge has been up for about 5 months.

Rui 02-27-2005 01:07 PM

Americans are totally outdated when it comes to cellphones...its amazing to say the least..

Newton - XXXAmigoz 02-27-2005 01:47 PM

3g is the future, like the internet starting all over again, for those with the vision.
