Take one of your old pc's and install linux.

What do you need to learn to do with UNIX? Not sure if there is such a thing as a crash course on UNIX, but there's no need to learn what you won't ever need. Let me know and I'll try to help you out!

I agree get an old PC ( a 386 or 486 will do in a pinch and install linux... then start playing

ya... i suggest getting a book also. You can go through some lessons and also have it around for quick reference

Thanks for the replies - i havebeen offered a promotion (ie. loads more $$$$$!) but i need to learn unix in about 3 weeks! It's programing yokogawa DCS systems for industry (petro-chem etc) and i would kinda like a head start. They have offered a relocation to Amersfoort (YES!!) and a minimum 6 month contract - so i REALLY want to make a good impression!
