Computer gurus, help please
My ps2 ports have been fucked for a while, so I put a usb mouse and keyboard on to solve the problem. The only problem is, usb devices don't seem to be recognized until windows has booted up, so I can't get into the bios, or start menu on boot up. Anyone know a way around this? I am running XP pro, I was using windows 98, at which time it would recognize the usb mouse.

Compaq a white block will appear in the top right hand corner for about 3 seconds, I believe its the F10 not sure. if nothing else works, when you after your hit the reset key or turn it off then back on just start pressing keys a bunch of them and it should come up with an error and one of the options will be to enter the set up . you might have to do this a few times. Or get the book and it should tell you which key to press when it's booting. Jim |

I'm disappointed Amp, it took you 6 minutes to post that wisdom, you're usually quicker. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/wink.gif jimmy, the problem is, my keyboard is not recognized at all, until windows is up and running, so hitting delete, or all keys at once does absolutely nothing.

Okay.... now that I've got my token "format c:" out of the way.... does your ps2 for the jeyboard not work at all? Cuz that's your problem right there.... you're not gonna get keyboard until you boot up if it's on usb. What's wrong with the ps2 port?

The ps2 ports slowly stopped responding about 6 months ago, now they don't even show up in the system. I don't think
I can do anything about it unless I replace the motherboard. I have no idea why this happened. |
I have the same problem with a USB hub, PC won't even start CMOS load until i unplug the thing. Even worse for you. It is on a Windows XP machine too, so that might be your problem. I haven't tested it further.
Can you uninstall? |

General USB Troubleshooting in Windows XP (Q310575) I searched for term "USB" under Windows XP. A lot of articles, no surprise there. |
