Linksys Wireless with SPEED BOOSTER???

FASTER????????????better???????

acctman 02-24-2005 09:52 AM

it's the same speed regardless you know. you'll probably get a faster connection between LAN computers but net speed wirelessly is the same

Yea, I bought the Netgear 108mps router and wireless nic card. Had to throttle it back to 54 mbps because it tweaked my LAN connectivity between the laptop and linux samba share on the network -- if anyone knows why, please feel free to chime in.

However, I didn't notice any huge difference between laptop internet connectivity between the 54 and 108 settings. *shrug*

i recently bought the new Belkin Pre-N, better wireless coverage

how was the speed compared to Wirless G standard?

Thurbs 02-24-2005 10:15 AM

Pre-N is supposedly the best, something double the speed or double the range of G with the same speed and back compatibility with all the previous standards. All I know is that if you're buying a wireless router, might as well buy the newest tech ;)

I heard those things dont make a diiference for surfing . Where they is if you are moving files from one computer to another on your own network.

I used to use a d-link POS for my wireless connection and it always dropped the connection. Switched to linksys with speed booster and it's the best decision I've ever made; it hasn't dropped it once and the speed has been outstanding.

Granted I can't compare it to a previous linksys one cause I never had one.

Juicy, something you should know... Wireless sucks if you use wireless house phones.

Everytime you pickup the phone.. your internet will go out. Im still trying to find a solution to this myself, i have a linksys wireless system myself.

Project-Shadow 02-24-2005 12:31 PM

Isn't N suppose to be 8 times the range and 2x the connectivity speed?
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Make sure you change the default password.

Everyone of my neighbors did not

Ive read that the phone frequencies and wireless frequiences have to be tweaked to avoid this issue...... May want to look into a phone on a different wave.
